With the release of the Season 3 update, players were charged Tekken 8 repeating previous mistakes, emphasizing offensive buffs over defensive upgrades, resulting in the game being hit with hundreds of negative reviews on Steam. The complaints were strong enough to pull down the game's recent reviews, which were mostly negative on average over the last 30 days of reviews on the platform.

On March 25, the developers officially reached out Tekken 8 The launch of version 3.0 and how it was received by fans. They explained that even outside of product reviews on platforms like Steam, the team was bombarded with more than 700 posts, and it seems most of them were negative. The team explains that 3.0 implemented adjustments to preserve character individuality while “reducing excessive rewards”, especially those tied to the Heat gameplay system. However, the edits were not received as well as the team intended, and stated that they are reviewing each message received as they work on the edits.

This patch will fix critical bugs and “unintended behavior” and will primarily revolve around player reporting with “strong community feedback”. Version 3.00.02 will arrive in mid-April, with version 3.01 set for later this spring. For the 3.01 update, the game will make behavioral adjustments leading to excessive rewards and tune the performance of the Heat system. Players should expect the changes to come in waves, as the developers explain that fixes that can be addressed in the short term will be rolled out gradually, while fixes with a “significant impact” will be rolled out incrementally through each version update.
Fans are likely pleased to hear that the team is taking the criticism to heart, but there may be some doubt as to whether they can bring the game to a state where everyone is happy. Some players may be experiencing a sense of deja vu as something similar happened when the game reached Season 2 in 2025. Back then Tekken 8 it also received emergency patches to address complaints, which also resulted in the game's Steam review score filling up and numerous messages being sent directly to Bandai Namco. Unfortunately, some players entered Season 2 hoping that would be the case Tekken 8 would tone down the overly aggressive nature of the game, but would be disappointed, so it looks like history is repeating itself for a large portion of the fan base.
While it's good that the developers have already addressed the complaint and tried to appease the fan base, it remains to be seen if players will be satisfied. Some felt some hope after the disaster of Season 2, as did the entire leveling team Tekken 8 was replaced after the mess, and the developer offered similar assurances leading up to Season 3, leading some to feel that the same mistakes wouldn't happen again. However, the launch of Season 3 seems to have gone against that hope. Once the upcoming patch series is complete, players will have a better idea of whether the game is capable of going in the direction they want.
