Double Battles are a standard VGC format that you're probably used to if you've ever watched a competitive Pokemon game. There are Pokemon that are built to be partners that do well in double battles. A few Pokémon are great for support, while others are perfect for setup.
With the right combinations in Pokemon Champions, you can create unstoppable Pokemon setups that will make your opponent beg for mercy when they see your party lineup. Of course, this all depends on the type of teams you're ultimately trying to create. No matter what team you want to build for, every Pokemon here is a solid choice for double battles.
Garchomp
Not only is Garchomp great for single battles, but it's also very good for double battles. With access to AoE moves like Earthquake, which will deal decent damage to both opponents, and Outrage, which will make Garchomp attack a 120 power move against a random opponent, and you can wipe out both enemies on the opponent's team because it's a consistent attack that most opponents can't survive.
With moves like Swords Dance to make Garchomp even stronger and Rock Tomb to slow down opponents, pair Garchomp with anything that won't be affected by Earthquake and you've got yourself a good partner.
Pokemon Champions: 9 Best Non-Attacking Moves to Use
You don't need every move to get hurt, you just need a good strategy.
Charizard
Charizard has great coverage, and with both X and Y options for Mega Evolution, Charizard is versatile enough to fit into any team you're trying to build. Set up Bright Sunlight to take advantage of Charizard's speed and power, blast enemies with a Grass Sunbeam during Bright Sunlight in the same turn, and destroy any Water Pokemon in your way.
Pair Charizard with a partner who can set and use weather options and you can control the battle according to your preferences. Burn the enemy, lower the opponents' stats, and make room for your Pokémon partner, all at the same time.
Primarina
Another Pokémon with a decent set of AoE attacks at her disposal, Primarina also has a Fairy-type that helps deal with Dragon-type Pokémon that are very popular, making her a great addition in double battles.
Evasive moves like Flip Turn also set you up for an easy trade, and Hyper Voice and Surf, along with Dazzling Gleam, will hit everyone on the enemy team at once. You can also play with your opponent's stats, making it easier for your Pokémon partner to track.
Corviknight
Corviknight is very scary on his own, and in a double battle, he has some essential moves that will keep him a threat to the enemy team. Taunt forces the enemy to only use one attack, potentially protecting Croviknight and his partner for example.
Corviknight can self-heal with Roost and has a wide range of move types, so he can most likely cover any weakness his partner might have. U-Turn is a great setup in double battles and a staple of most Corviknight teams.
Excadrill
Excadrill has several AoE movement options that work really well in a dual battle setup. Earthquake is a staple, and moves like Iron Head can help cause one of the two enemies you face to flinch, giving you an advantage. Give Excadrill an accuracy boost from its partner to OHKO with Horn Drill and set Excadrill with Swords Dance or the enemy with Stealth Rock to help amnipulate the battlefield.
With Sand Rush and Sand Force abilities, a sidekick that can do a free sandstorm is the perfect addition to a double battle with Excadrill, making it move faster or be stronger.
Froslass
A great choice if you want to mega evolve and one of the new ice-type Pokemon available to do so, Froslas, like some others, has an AoE option in Blizzard. Since they are extremely powerful, additional moves like Shadow Ball and Destiny Bond can help dispose of opponents.
Aurora Veil is a great setup for dual battles, reducing damage from physical and special moves by 1/3 for everyone on your side of the team. You can set up a blizzard, use your abilities, attack enemies and defend your team, and even mega evolve with Froslas in double battles.
Mimikyu
Mimikyu is a great candidate for a double battle as its disguise ability ensures that it won't be destroyed immediately. This allows you to set up your team, including canceling Trick Room if you're using a slow but powerful build. While most of his attacks are single target, you can get powerful Fairy and Ghost physical type moves that deal a surprising amount of damage.
These physical moves will bypass the resistance created on these special moves and give you a chance to take down an enemy after a certain set up and pair well with a special attacker.
Whimsicott
Whimsicott comes as the ultimate support Pokemon. Bulky enough to survive with a kit that has a lot of setup, you'll want to have one on your team for just that purpose. You have Tailwind to help your team outpace the opposition and Sunny Day for the perfect weather setup with a partner to take advantage of.
Whimsicott comes with several tools to help you mitigate the damage your team takes, taunt an enemy, use Encore to force a hand, or use a helping hand to boost your partner's attacks. It really is the ultimate dual battle pokemon.
Gengar
With Mega Evolution at your disposal, Gengar is a good choice for double battles if you're looking for a mega to add to your team. Your Sludge Wave will hit all Pokemon with a small percentage chance of being poisoned. Destiny Bond makes sure that if Gengar fails, one of your opponent's pokemon does as well, doubling the battlefield.
Icy Wind is another option for decent AoE damage, but mostly to slow both of your opponents. Gengar just has a lot of useful options to hit multiple enemies and keep the playing field even, making it a great dual battle option.
