2020 has seen some of the biggest worldwide anime movie releases of all time, with movies like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle, The First Slam Dunk, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arcand more completely killing it at the box office while receiving praise from critics and fans alike.
While the 1920s has been a great decade for anime movies so far, you can't overlook how great the 2010s have been. It may not have had the same record-breaking hits, but the 2010s had some amazing shonen anime movies, with at least a handful of strong titles coming out each year. 2010: Trigun: Badlands Rumble
It's not very often that an anime movie hits theaters years after a series has ended. Released over ten years after the last episode of the original Trigun aired anime, Trigun: Badlands Rumble tells the original movie story set between episodes 10 and 12 of the anime.
Although almost two decades old, Badlands Rumble still looks great. The animation is solid, Madhouse does a great job of making the film look as much like the 98 series as possible while also updating the style to feel a bit more modern. The action sequences are great and the film's original storytelling makes the story really fun and completely accessible to fans who haven't seen the original series before. Although it's probably a good idea to check first.
Second All Metal Alchemist film, The sacred star of Miloš is part of Brotherhood continuity rather than that of the original series, although it is not considered canon. Like in 2005 Conqueror of Shamballa, The sacred star of Miloš tells an original story from the film featuring the Elric brothers who find themselves in conflict with another imperialist country, this time the mysterious Crete.
That may not be comparable Brotherhoodbut The sacred star of Miloš the story is still solid, with the new characters introduced being the highlight of the film. The acting sequences are as good as you'd expect them to be, and both the English and Japanese voice acting are exceptional.
2012: Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie
A lot Naruto movies have come out over the years, each has its strengths and weaknesses. Among them all, Path to Ninja is considered one of, if not the best. The film stands out by giving fans a chance to experience an alternate reality where Naruto's parents didn't die, Sakura's parents died defending the village, and most of the main characters are completely different versions of themselves.
As you would expect with this setup, Path to Ninja is an incredibly emotional ride, and the alternate reality presented is both an interesting departure from the series standard and a tragic look at what could have been. We had some solid ones Naruto movies but The way to Ninja is a unique ride.
2013: Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya
The fans love it Ginatama for its absurd, never-ending slapstick comedy and fun character dynamics. It's one of the best comedy anime out there, and even though it's been around for so long, the series has never lost steam. But one thing that is often overlooked by those unfamiliar with the series is how well it blends in more of the series' moments alongside the ridiculous comedy it's widely known for.
Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya does a great job of showcasing the more serious side of the series, with an amazing story and incredible character growth throughout. In addition to great storytelling, Be Yorozuya forever features some of the best action sequences in the series, complemented by fun comedic moments, giving fans the best the series has to offer.
2014: Detective Conan: Dimensional Sniper
There are currently 28 of them detective conan movies with the year 2025 Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback the newest of the lot. 29th movie, Fallen Angel of the Highwayis due out in April and continues the franchise's impressive run. Dimensional Sniper is a fun, action-packed thriller that's perfect for longtime fans of the series.
The film follows Conan as he tries to track down an incredibly skilled sniper who is terrorizing Tokyo. This isn't the best entry point into the series, but the ones they know detective conan will appreciate an interesting mystery alongside solid animations and action sequences.

2015: Haikyuu!! movie: The End and the Beginning
One of the greatest modern sports manga, Haikyuu!! is loved by anime fans all over the world. Both the manga and anime are incredibly popular, and even though it's a compilation film, End and beginning is a solid retelling that covers the first half of Season 1 of the anime that was released before Season 2 premiered.
End and beginning is a great way to experience the early parts of the anime for those who want a more condensed experience. Unlike many compilation films, End and beginning it has a pretty solid pace that doesn't sacrifice much to tell the same story as the first 13 episodes in the anime.
2016: A Quiet Voice
Based on the manga by Yoshitoki Oima, A quiet voice is an emotional roller coaster. The series follows Shoya Ishida who, after bullying a young deaf transfer student named Shoko Nishimiya in elementary school, decides to reconcile with her and make amends years later when they are in high school.
The film hits most of the manga's main beats, condensing the 62-chapter story into just over 2 hours. While much is cut from the manga to save time, the film focuses heavily on the dynamic between Shoya and Shoko, keeping true to the spirit of the source material and delivering an incredibly honest story of forgiveness and personal growth.
2017: Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic
The Black Butler the manga is still going strong and the series will be coming up on its 20th anniversary later this year. Much of the manga has been adapted, with five seasons, an OVA, and the 2017 Atlantic Book covering various arcs.
The Book of the Atlantic she is the only one Black Butler anime so far and has set the bar pretty high for any future installments. An adaptation of the Luxury Liner manga arc, The Book of the Atlantic sees Ciel and Sebastian investigating a mysterious company rumored to be experimenting on the dead on the luxury cruise ship Campania. It has some great fight scenes, but the film really shines when exploring the dynamic between Sebastian and Ciel.
2018: Dragon Ball Super: Broly
From Battle of the Gods, Dragon Ball has been on a solid run with the release of his films. Broly had a lot of hype for one big reason: the series finally became one of the most beloved movie characters. Fans expected a lot from Broly's official reintroduction and it's safe to say that the movie delivered.
Not only was Broly a much more fleshed out character than his original incarnation, but the movie itself was full of great action with Goku and Vegeta showing off their skills in an attempt to match Broly's untapped potential. Some of the 3D sequences were a little jarring, but the fight sequences were for the most part beautifully animated.
2019: One Piece: Stampede
One piece has a bunch of different movies to accompany the ongoing anime adaptation. Some are definitely better than others and the one that stands out above the rest is Panic.
Panic celebrates the 20th anniversary of the franchise with an incredible cast of some of the series' most iconic characters and amazing fight scenes that make it a lot of fun for fans. The movie is pure fun and fan service that serves as a great addition to the series despite being non-canon.
