New update for Arc Raider is officially live, and along with the introduction of the new event, there have been various core gameplay additions and improvements. Along with balance changes, this update brings new material that can only be discovered during specific weather on four of the five maps.
Here's everything you need to know about finding Fossilized Lightning and whether stashing them is really worth the time and effort.
Where to find fossilized lighting
unsurprisingly, You can only find Fossilized Lighting during the Electromagnetic Storm event on any of the maps on which it is available. The catch is that it's not an item that's just lying around waiting to be grabbed, or stored at specific points of interest.
Instead, this material only has a chance to reproduce after lightning strikes the ground. However, the likelihood of this happening is extremely low. During my testing, I was only able to get one petrified lightning bolt after several dozen lightning strikes around me. Real material appears in the center of impact of the bolt and appears as a great writhing rock.
For the uninitiated, you can tell when lightning is about to strike by the distinctive blue electricity and sparks it emits on the ground. When this happens, you have about 2-3 seconds before the lightning strikes the ground. If you get caught in an explosion, you will almost certainly lose your entire shield as well as some of your health.
Remember that petrified lighting cannot be bought, made, and nothing can be recycled into it.
If you want to farm this item, remember that it only takes place during an electromagnetic storm, which only lasts for a little over an hour when active. This will give you about 2-3 sessions depending on how long you stay in the raid.
I recommend finding a place with a little overhang and some open space. You can hang around in an exposed area until the lightning hits you, then duck into cover to protect yourself. That being said, if you pay attention to where the lightning strikes while traversing the map, this is not really an item you will need to farm.
Unfortunately, Fossilized Lighting does not serve a purpose in the game at this time. However, with new updates and the first wipe coming up, that could easily change. Recycling the petrified lighting gives you three explosive compounds, or you can sell them for $4,000 if you have little money.
If you are planning to go on the first expedition, I would sell any you come across so you can use them to get free skill points. For those who don't reset, it might be worth passively acquiring a couple to save in case they come in handy down the road.
