The biggest JRPG sequel released in 2026

2026 could be a big year for JRPGs as there are many surprises to come. The fans want to play Kingdom Hearts 4 or another Final Fantasy VII remake the project and both of these sequels would be really cool. There are a number of well-known projects in the works, e.g The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, Ballad of Antaraand Decapolice.

All of these games are due out in 2026, but what about the sequels? There are also a lot of them coming out, from remakes to remasters to straight new sequels. Let's go through some of the bigger sa's without set dates. One thing's for sure: JRPG fans are in for a treat next year.

The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Beyond The Horizon

Combination of Turn and Action

Legend of Heroes The series is hard to get into simply because it's been going on for so long, some of the games haven't been released in North America, and the titles can be hard to keep track of. he said that The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon is the latest edition of the main series, which first appeared in Japan in 2024 on a plethora of consoles.

Its North American debut will arrive on just as many consoles in early January, so the wait won't be long. The great thing about this series is that players can engage in both action and turn-based combat, something not many big JRPGs allow. It's more appealing to a larger group of players.

Code vein 2

Time traveling vampires

• Planned systems: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Code vein was released in 2019, right before the new consoles launched, and was a more anime take on the Soulslike genre, featuring vampire-like people going after transformed humans in a post-apocalyptic landscape. In addition to the vampire story and abilities, it also had an AI companion that could join players on missions.

Code vein 2 not entirely connected, or at least how the two games could be connected is a mystery. It seems clear that there will be some time travel or time manipulation involved in the story and possibly the gameplay in addition to the classic challenging Soulslike combat. It is another early release for 2026 in January.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection

It's hard to believe Monster Hunter the spinoff is still ongoing. It launched on 3DS in 2016 in Japan Tales of Monster Hunterswhich was followed by a sequel on Switch and PC. Now both available on multiple consoles and sequels, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflectionwill debut at launch for multiple consoles as well.

Unlike the main games, these JRPGs are turn-based adventures, and it looks like the sequel will be in line with the previous installments. Players can go into a semi-open world and fight monsters with their monsters and human groups. They can ride monsters, attack nests, steal eggs and go on quests. It's a full-on adventure that can hopefully finally gain more notoriety with this latest addition.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement

Metroidvania Reboot is back

• Planned systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was a Kickstarter campaign to bring back the action of Metroidvania va Castlevania style that was finally released in 2019. Tonally and playably it reflected Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia the most since characters in both games could absorb powers.

continuation, Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagementseems to be disconnected from most of the characters from the original and the gameplay will also change a bit. Like Castlevania: Portrait of Doomplayers will be able to switch between two characters that travel and fight together, named Leonard and Alexander. While no date has been set, fans can keep their fingers crossed that it will be released by 2026 as promised.

Ys 10: Current Nordics

An extended classic

Ys 10: Nordics is the latest entry in a series that has been in development since 1987. Unlike most major JRPGs Ys the game is a continuation of one character, Adol Christin, but the numbered titles are not sequential as the stories take place out of order. Regardless, the action and music in these games keep players coming back because they're simple yet endlessly engaging, as players can feel like they're going on a fun journey with an adventurer rather than someone who has to save the world from the brink of destruction over and over again.

Ys 10: Nordics is the largest game to date with a vast world for players to navigate, and was originally released in 2024 in North America, which was a year after Japan. Ys 10: Current Nordics is an extended version with more content. Its PC and Switch 2 versions were launched in Japan and Asian territories in 2025. In 2026, North America will get the PC, PS5 and Switch 2 versions, so next year will be a good time to check it out Ys series, maybe for the first time.

Mega Man Star Force: Legacy Collection

Seven games in one

Mega Man Star Force was released in 2006 for the DS in Japan as a successor Mega Man Battle Network games. There were three versions, Pegasus, Leo and Dragon, which had minor differences such as how Pokemon the franchise releases at least two games per generation. North American fans had to wait until 2007 for this. Regardless of the history, all seven main games will now be available to play on a wide range of consoles in 2026 through a new collection.

Mega Man Star Force: Legacy Collection will feature seven JRPGs, which are hybrids between action and turn-based battles, that you will play from start to finish. The Mega manProduction based collections are usually well produced with lots of extras like artwork so this could feed fans until 2027 when Mega Man: Dual Override should come out.

Inazuma Eleven RE

A remake of a classic

Inazuma Eleven is a series produced by Level-5 that features soccer-based gameplay infused with wild JRPG elements such as special moves and anime-inspired stories. The first game debuted on the DS in Japan in 2008, and North America was unable to play it until the enhanced 3DS version was released in 2014.

Now the game will be fully reworked in 2026 through Inazuma Eleven RE. The art style looks simpler than the latest item that was released in 2025, Inazuma Eleven: Path of Victory 2025, but anyone who liked this game can also look forward to a return to the beginnings of the franchise in 2026.
