Despite not being serialized as a manga for about five years, interest in Demon Slayer has grown tremendously over the years. Much of this was due to the sensational release of the biggest anime movie of all time, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza's Return. This movie hit the theaters from July 2025 and it would be an understatement to call it a huge success. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle was so big that it broke all Box Office records held by the franchise or any other anime film.
Clearly, anime fans are obsessed with Demon Slayer and want to see more of the series. Unfortunately, however Demon Slayer's manga closed in 2020. Since then, creator Koyoharu Gotouge has been rather silent. However, while Koyoharu Gotouge may not be returning to Demon Slayer, the author is most likely trying to start a new manga and ride on the huge Demon Slayer hype. In the past, the author has already expressed his desire to create a new manga in a fanbook.
Demon Slayer's Creator Gotouge has already teased the new manga
Demon Slayer has become one of the most successful manga series of all time. When it comes to anime and movies, they are a huge success all over the world. Demon Slayer completely dominated the Japanese box office, with both of her films coming in first and second place. All this success also rubbed off on manga. The Demon Slayer manga only has 23 volumes, but currently has over 220 million copies in circulation. This is the highest volume sales of any other manga series in the world.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the series' original creator, Koyoharu Gotouge. She made Demon Slayer what it is today, and while she took a leave of absence from the series, Demon Slayer fans would probably be looking forward to seeing what else she creates in the future. Koyoharu Gotouge has already stated that she wants to start a new manga. In one of the Demon Slayer fanbooks, the author mentioned a desire to write a romantic comedy series. Although it's been a while since the author stated this, the plan seems pretty clear. As one of the most famous mangaka in the world today, this new manga could be a massive hit and a perfect replacement for Demon Slayer.

Gotouge's new manga will be a sci-fi comedy
Koyoharu Gotouge may definitely return to the manga industry one day, and when she does, her new series will be a big departure from Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer was set in a fantasy version of Japan and involved battles against man-eating demons. The next Gotouge series will be very different as it will focus on sci-fi elements in a romantic comedy that would theoretically be a bit similar to Dandadan. Instead of demons, her next manga might have to do with aliens. Of course, since the fanbook came out in 2021, Gotouge might have changed her mind. But this is the closest the author has revealed so far in terms of a new manga series.
Gotouge has yet to start working on a new manga
Many fans are wondering when Gotouge might return to Weekly Shonen Jump to start serializing her next manga. The truth is that no one knows the exact date. Since the release of the fanbook, there have been no statements regarding her next manga, so fans have to wait and see what her next destination will be. Right now, when Demon Slayer is at its peak, would be the best time for her new series to start, as fans would be more willing to check out the new work. At the same time, it should be remembered that Weekly Shonen Jump itself suffers greatly from a lack of amazing new gen shonen. Gotouge is a seasoned mangaka and a return to Jump would help the magazine greatly.
Whatever Koyoharu Gotouge comes up with is sure to be a hit. However, it is very hard to imagine her ever surpassing her peak with Demon Slayer. The glory of Demon Slayer seems impossible to recreate for any mangaka, new or old. It has already been etched in manga history and will be fondly remembered for ages.
