The developers of Silksong think that there is no point in going into game prizes

Hollow Knight: Silksong had the unenviable task of living up to the hype after keeping fans waiting for so long. Although not to the same degree, it's the same dilemma that GTA 6 and Half-Life 3 will face when (and if) they finally come out. However, Team Cherry seems to have put all that time to good use as Silksong has been well received by fans and critics alike.

While the developers may be happy with the overall result, winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025 is a completely different conversation. We got quite a few bangers this year, but as things stand, even the GOTY nominees think there's no other option than Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In fact, Team Cherry is so sure of it that they won't be attending the awards ceremony at all.

Team Cherry won't be attending The Game Awards 2025 because Expedition 33 wins everything anyway

Along with the likes of Hades 2, Death Stranding 2 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Silksong was nominated for Game of the Year 2025, but the developers feel there is no point in participating. They are confident that Expedition 33 will win it. Other than that, it looks like there's still room to work on more Silksong content.

When Bloomberg asked Team Cherry co-founder William Pellen if they were going to LA for the event, his response was casual: “Maybe not. We're busy.” When asked what if they recorded an acceptance speech in case Silksong won, Pellen added that the outcome was predetermined and Expedition 33 was definitely taking it.

Expedition 33, Silksong and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 disappeared into a single image with the game awards logo in the middle.

I don't think 2025 has a clear GOTY, and that's a good thing

“But Expedition 33!” I know, I hear you.

“This year I think we're safe. I think Expedition 33,” he said. “It's exceptional and generally palatable. While we're on a knife's edge where it appeals to some and infuriates others.” Admittedly, the difficulty of Silksong is something that can put casual players off a bit. Expedition 33 isn't a walk in the park either, but it's certainly nowhere near as difficult as Team Cherry's game.

To be honest, it will be a big surprise to everyone if Clair Obscur Expedition 33 doesn't win it. Maybe Team Cherry has the right idea.
