The director of Splinter Cell Remake is reportedly quitting

A now-deleted job listing from Ubisoft seemingly revealed that the upcoming Splinter Cell the remake no longer has a game director attached to it. Highly anticipated Splinter Cell The remake was announced by Ubisoft back in 2021, but the project seems to be going through numerous development issues as another game director has seemingly left Ubisoft.

If the job listing is to be believed, it wouldn't be the first time the project has lost its director. In 2022, less than 12 months after the title was revealed, Splinter Cell the remake lost its game director. David Grivel, who originally headed the project at Ubisoft, has been with the studio for more than a decade. During this time, Grivel worked on some of Ubisoft's most famous titles, including Splinter Cell Blacklistnumerous Far Cry records and Assassin's Creed Unity. The developer would then go on to work as a senior design director for EA, lending his expertise to the great shooter, Battlefield 6.

The job posting suggests that Splinter Cell Remake currently does not have a game director

After Grivel's departure, Andy Schmoll, who was previously the systems designer for the Far Cry 6was named the new game director for Splinter Cell remake. According to Schmoll's LinkedIn page, she appears to have left the studio in September 2025. Since then, outlet Tech4Gamers has noted that Ubisoft is hiring a new director to take over the project. While the job listing has since been deleted, a screenshot taken by Tech4Gamers specifically mentions the role Splinter Cellresponsible for the “moment to moment gameplay” on the project.

It's unclear what's going on behind the scenes at Ubisoft Toronto that has caused two game directors to leave the studio in the space of just three years, but it's clear that Splinter Cell the remake has some development issues. Ubisoft Toronto is reportedly rewriting the script for a new, modern audience, which could be why there haven't been any updates since it was first revealed four years ago. However, the lack of communication from the studio worried fans as some began to wonder if the remake had been quietly cancelled.

Although Ubisoft has not provided any official update on the project, a recent job listing suggests that work on the remake is still ongoing. Despite rumors that the project is dead, industry insiders have given fans an update Splinter Cell's development last year, which revealed that the remake was still in active production. The title was said to be codenamed “North” and is being developed using the Snowdrop engine.

Ubisoft also said it pushed back some of its “biggest productions” earlier this year, which could have had a big impact on Splinter Cell remake. The publisher did not reveal which titles will be affected by the delay, but it can be assumed that as one of the studio's most popular franchises alongside such Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, Splinter CellThe as-yet-unannounced release window has likely changed behind the scenes.
