The highly anticipated “A Safehouse in the Hills” update for Grand Theft Auto Online is now available for download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Free content update is available for everyone Grand Theft Auto Online players, adding new missions, vehicles, and most importantly, a luxury mansion for players to acquire. Fans were also surprised after Rockstar confirmed that the update will also see the return of the iconic Grand Theft Auto 5 Protagonist: Michael De Santa.
Since its launch in 2013 Grand Theft Auto Online was a massive success for developer Rockstar Games, becoming one of the most popular live streaming titles of all time. However, this should not be such a big surprise Grand Theft Auto 5 as of November 2025, it has sold over 220 million copies. Also contributing to the success of this game's multiplayer counterpart is the steady stream of large free content updates. Fans often get a new patch in the summer and then one in the winter, as well as some hotfixes in between, and the latest update just went out to players worldwide.
GTA 6 isn't coming out in 2026. I'll eat my hat if Rockstar somehow pulls it off.
GTA 6 has been officially delayed twice, from Fall 2025 to May 2026 and then to November 2026, and I bet it will happen again.
Grand Theft Auto Online releases Big Mansions update
After many months of leaks and rumors, Rockstar Games has officially released the latest Grand Theft Auto Online update, known as “Safehouse in the Hills”. Downloadable now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, the update not only returns Michael De Santa, one of Grand Theft Auto 5's three main protagonists, but will also present the Prix Luxury Real Estate. Players can access the new feature from their gaming PC or mobile device, where they can then purchase one (or all) of the three new mansion properties in the game. The price of each mansion varies depending on the customization players apply to it, but the base price is $11,500,000, $12,200,000, and $12,800,000.
It's not just mansions though, as the December 10th update also introduces new vehicles like the Vapid FMJ MK V. There's a catch to the latest supercar, though, as only GTA+ subscribers can access it for the first week. But don't worry, as there's plenty to keep players busy, including some new missions that don't require the purchase of a mansion to access.
If that wasn't enough, Rockstar is adding the highly requested Mission Creator as part of the latest update. It is available in all versions Grand Theft Auto Online and is depth a a comprehensive toolset that allows players to design and publish their own missions with sophisticated game mechanics, custom objectives, placeable actors and much more.
WITH Grand Theft Auto 6 to be launched next year, the future Grand Theft Auto onlineE remains uncertain. Many speculate that Rockstar intends to release a new version of the multiplayer title alongside the next installment in the franchise in 2026, but this has yet to be confirmed by the studio. Some even believe that today's “A Safehouse in the Hills” update could be the last major patch Grand Theft Auto Onlinegiven that it finally gives players access to the mansions and also sees the return of Michael, the third and final one Grand Theft Auto 5 protagonist to be added to the live service title.
Sadly, there is still a long way to go before players have more Grand Theft Auto game in their hands. While Rockstar originally intended to launch the title in the fall of 2025, it was unexpectedly pushed back to May 26, 2026. Fans were then greatly disappointed when the studio announced another delay. Grand Theft Auto 6this time we're pushing it back to November 19, 2026.
