The new free game on Steam is The Sims, pushing Disney's Dreamlight Valley out of its neighborhood

2025 was a bit of a mixed bag for the cozy genre. While Stardew Valley has an exciting 1.7 update planned, not sure when it will actually be released, same goes for ConcernedApe Haunted Chocolatierwhile it was a fairly quiet year for fans of the developer. And although pleasant Hello Kitty: Island Adventure reach a larger audience through Steam and PlayStation services, Tamagotchi Plaza disappoint the fans by focusing entirely on the minigames and Stories of the Region it failed to fulfill its potential both mechanically and visually. Fortunately, The Sims 4 and Disney Dreamlight Valley have held down the fort through updates and expansions, though both games could have some competition on the horizon Heartopia.

Although it is true that not everyone Sims 4 the update went smoothly, as all patches tend to break mods briefly and cause a number of bugs, the content and improvements they brought to the free-to-play title are a plus. As regards Disney Dreamlight ValleyThe Wishblossom Ranch DLC remains fresh in fans' minds since it was released in November and has brought success to this cozy title. Supporting these games is undoubtedly a plus for their many fans, but any gamer tired of spending big bucks on expansions or looking for something new yet familiar will want to watch Heartopiafree to play game on Steam.

Heartopia it's listed as “coming soon” and currently lacks a release date on the platform. However, it is released on Android and iOS on January 7, so its launch could not be neglected.

Heartopia is perfect for the activity-oriented Dreamlight Valley fans who want to relax

Disney Dreamlight Valley”quests are a bit of a monkey's paw. Yes, they fulfill the dreams of Disney fans around the world by allowing them to befriend and assist all of their favorite characters, but they can get overwhelming very quickly. Players are constantly spending time searching for NPCs they've been told to talk to, and with so many fetch quests, it's possible to burn out or freak out about everything there is to do. Add to that the need for stamina management that brought about the Berry Salad meta, where players cook tons of this food before taking action, and VAT he can feel fun and exhausted at the same time. This is the place Heartopia aims to change the game as it promises no stamina limits or daily checklists.

This is a bold decision by indie developer XD as earning Nook Miles every day is the big thing that keeps players coming back Animal Crossingwhile working to tame animals Disney Dreamlight Valley provides similar day-to-day work. However, if XD can make the game rewarding and fun enough without a checklist, it would be a great way to avoid FOMO and prevent players from feeling “forced” to play a certain amount every day. It will all depend on how much content there is Heartopiabecause it's going to need some serious depth to deliver on the “no checklists” promise without going stale after a few hours. Either way, the lack of a frustrating stamina system will be a boon in the eyes of many fans.

While mining is out of the question, at least in the current form of the game, cooking, fishing and gardening are all key aspects Disney Dreamlight Valley — are present. Swap that for bird watching and it's clear Heartopia should tick almost all the same boxes as Gameloft's cozy game. While the NPCs may not be made up of iconic, quirky characters like personified emotions and sea witches, they will hopefully be enjoyable to interact with, and the cutest art style should make them incredibly charming.

Heartopia's seamless world could be its secret weapon

You constantly need to fast travel to different regions Disney Dreamlight Valley it's more frustrating than it should be thanks to a classic video game glitch: loading screens. Last-gen versions of the game, especially the original Nintendo Switch port, can take ages to get around. Heartopia won't have this problem, apparently, since there won't be any loading screens according to XD. The only caveat is that you can't tell how big the area around the city of Heartopia is, as if it were incredibly small, the suggested seamlessness wouldn't be as impressive. Still, to allow for bird watching and other activities, the world is probably decently large and there should be plenty to explore for cozy game lovers.

A short teaser video shows a character playing a guitar HeartopiaA Steam page that might hint that minigames will be included. However, with characters sitting and talking nearby, it's more likely that the music playing is just emotion.

Heartopia could beat The Sims Rene project to the max

Other aspects Heartopia lean more in the direction The Sims. For example, the building of a house is much deeper than Disney Dreamlight Valley. Instead of purchasing from an (often expensive) selection of pre-made house exteriors, players create their home from scratch, much like they do in Sims series. With no checklists to go through, NPC interactions could serve purely for entertainment purposes, while XD can focus on creating interesting characters such as The Sims“Bella Goth.” In addition, the characters boast an aesthetic that resembles MySims subseries, which could make it even more appealing to fans of those games. The biggest attraction though Heartopia for Sims Fans could be that it gives them the kind of multiplayer experience they want while official Sims the online project was met with controversy.

With a focus on Dress to impress– like mini-games, mobile game-like user interface and art style fans are not satisfied, Project René divided the community. Fans wanted to enjoy modern multiplayer Sims experience for some time, but it does not seem Rene it ticks the right boxes, at least based on leaks. If Heartopia manages to allow players to build houses together, although this could be an excellent alternative. There is no telling if it will have such a feature as it has been years in the making Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduce multiplayer decor through New Horizons 3.0 update, but there's definitely a chance it could. At worst, the game will offer a Sims– as a building experience for singleplayer fans and Disney Dreamlight Valley-like multiplayer, which could prove to be a killer combination. With no price tag attached, this free-to-play game on Steam is one to keep an eye on.
