Granolah arc Dragon Ball Super ended rather interestingly, showing the series' most iconic villain, Frieza, making an explosive return to the main timeline with a brand new form that put Goku and Vegeta's Divine Transformations to shame with just one hit. This showed how big a gap had grown between them.

In the Tournament of Power, Goku opened the door to what fans eventually came to call the 'Divine' transformation, which was essentially a form used to store the power of angels with Ultra Instinct or the power of gods with Ultra Ego. So far these abilities have been realized by Goku and Vegeta.
This new direction in the series plays on individual character strengths rather than giving everyone the same form, a trend that has spread to the other main characters of Universe 7, namely Gohan with Beast, Broly with his Full Powered Super Saiyan, and Piccolo with his Orange form. However, despite this incredible increase in power, the heroes are nowhere near Black Frieza's level. That being said, Frieza was able to defeat Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta in one hit, showing how much he overshadowed his opponents during his time away.
Frieza always had the most potential in the franchise, so he found a Hyperbolic Time Chamber on a random planet and over 10 years managed to get training to unlock and perfect his black form, which then allowed him to shoot through even the most powerful of Z-Fighters. All things considered, the possibility of any of the heroes defeating Black Frieza alone is almost impossible at the moment. No matter how much Goku perfects Ultra Instinct or how much Gohan or Broly's potential peaks, a single showing of Black Frieza against Goku and Vegeta still puts him far above anyone else.
This makes Gogeta the only character that can take down the Galactic Tyrant. Although Metamoran Fusion was always believed to be inferior to Potar Fusion due to the lack of Rival Boost, Gogeta's debut in Dragon Ball Super he changed this as he stated that Goku and Vegeta's powers would not only add up, but would then be greatly multiplied, effectively working the same way as Rival Boost.

In the current state of the story, Goku and Vegeta are clearly much stronger than ever before, which is typical Dragon Ball operates. Realizing their respective Divine Transformations, Goku mastered the multiverse's greatest defense with Ultra Instinct and Vegeta mastered the multiverse's greatest offense with Ultra Ego.
This makes it very clear that through their union they can give birth to the single most powerful mortal in the entire multiverse. Black Frieza is currently believed by most to be at the Gods of Destruction level, and with this enhanced “Ultimate” Gogeta, Goku and Vegeta can very quickly close the gap in power against the Frost Demon and get on par. In fact, it may be the only way to do it.
At this point, many fans are probably wondering why Gogeta is the one to take on this challenge and not Vegito. The answer here lies in the fact that both fusions have been confirmed to be equally powerful in every way, only differing in personality. With that in mind, the only thing to consider is fusion stability.
When Vegito was pitted against Merged Zamasu, the fusion only lasted a total of 15 minutes and broke prematurely due to the strain the Super Saiyan Blue form put on Potara's earrings, so the fusion with Divine Techniques would break almost immediately. On the other hand, Metamoran Fusion lasts 30 minutes regardless of power, making Gogeta the perfect warrior to challenge Black Frieza's incredible power.
