Any trading card game can be accused of being a bit of a drag at times, releasing sets for the sake of releasing sets and not adding anything of substance or value to the card game (or its collectors). The upcoming Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes is ready for Pokemon TCG however, it is not one of them. At first glance, it is immediately clear how valuable this set will be for fans, for active players, for collectors and, unfortunatelyfor ne'er-do-wells.

Introducing Pokemon Legends: ZAMega Dragonite as the face of the set, Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes will see it, and other new Mega Evolutions will get ex cards, along with special artwork. Stellar Tera Pokemon ex cards, special illustrations for over 30 Pokemon and trainer cards and comes as the largest set in the Pokemon TCG with over 290 cards, it's clear that the set is special.

Pokemon TCG: Why Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes is a big deal

Not only is Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes a massive set, but there are plenty of cards to chase. Even excluding gold cards, Pikachu, Gengar, Dragonite, and Mewtwo are big card names worth chasing. Hopefully it's not as bad as Prismatic Evolutions and is as generous as Pokemon TCG's Crown Zenith, but one thing is clear: these cards are valuable.

Something like Mega Gengar ex SIR is likely to be extremely expensive in the first month, if not much longer, especially as the cards increase in value over the years. It's actually one of those special investment kits where you buy everything you can, let it appreciate for ten years, and make a profit. Unfortunately, that kind of value will attract scalpers and whales who buy in bulk compared to the average fan or collector. For a chance to compete and snag a set, fans will want to be prepared and draw quickly.

It's all set to make Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes as big, if not bigger, than Prismatic Evolutions. Prismatic was one of the best sellers Pokemon TCG sets at all, saw record price increases online and were incredibly difficult to buy due to scalpers. On top of that the draw rates were abysmal and it was possible to walk away from etb with basically nothing. So Prismatic Evolution's Umbreon saw a price tag of ~$3,000. Again, we're crossing our fingers that Mega Evolution – Ascended Heroes is more generous, but it's hard to tell. The old idiom says to hope for the best and prepare for the worst, so fans will want to be prepared to deal with high prices and scalpers.
