It's been a busy year PlayStation Plusbecause the subscription service expands the range of games offered. Among independent titles like Balatro and Still Wakes the Deep and AAA heavy-hitters like GTA 5PlayStation Plus has maintained a solid lineup this year. Although the game lineup is constantly changing, each month is usually full of great options, and December is no different.
On December 8thPlayStation Plus is about to get a bold new game that combines stunning visuals with an even crazier story. The name is A skate storyand although skateboarding is a key part of the game, it's much more than just a normal skating game. Its premise involves demons doing the devil's bidding and even a personal grudge against the moon. A skate story is a one-day game for PS Plus, and for those looking for something truly unique, this might be the perfect game to jump into.
Skate Story is all about a glass demon trying to destroy the moon
A skate story is a far cry from the formula of past skate games like Tony Hawk's pro skater. It's a unique journey through a twisted and visually captivating underworld that uses the mechanics of skateboarding in new and inventive ways. The protagonist is an unnamed demon who is “made of glass and pain”. The main character makes a deal with the devil, who gives them a skateboard. While the main character is a mysterious figure, it is at least known that the Moon is the source of this demon's pain. The Devil's Deal requires the protagonist to get to the moon, skate the celestial body, and eat it, freeing the character from pain. Simple.
Saving lost souls after one kickflip
In this epic journey to crush and devour the moon, players will be able to explore nine layers of a mysterious and hellish underworld that is much more than the usual fire and brimstone. As one works to become a more capable skater, each upgrade brings the protagonist one step closer to completing their mission, but there are plenty of obstacles along the way. Boss fights, other lost souls to save, and a frog with a really bad memory are just some of the encounters players will face, and it's up to the heroic skater to take down enemies and help those in need before they reach the moon. The December PS Plus games list is diverse and A skate story brings even more uniqueness to the offer.
Skate Story consists of out-of-the-box storytelling, surreal visuals, and third-person action
Surreal beauty A skate story it's not just engaging. It's an innovative way to bring the mechanics of skates closer and create something that stands entirely on its own. With franchises like Tony Hawk's pro skater and Skatethe environments and stories are much more grounded in reality, though players can create outlandish combos. In fact, there's no other skate-based game that involves a pain-ridden demon trying to take down the moon. While some localities in the vicinity A skate storyThe map is more of a traditional city street setting, with some locations looking like something out of a fever dream, requiring players to think outside the box when it comes to finding places to grind and kickflip.
Despite a complete overhaul of the formula, Skate Story still boasts the genre's core features
-
A powerful soundtrack that helps bring the game world to life
-
Board customization
-
Skating challenges to help players level up
-
Emphasis on creative combinations
These are all staples of the skateboarding genre that will still be familiar to longtime skateboarding fans. This blend of wild storytelling and classic features gives A skate story a sense of familiarity and a promising experience unlike any other skate game. If skating were taken out of the equation and replaced with more traditional third-person action controls, it would still be an incredibly compelling premise.
Even if someone didn't like skate games in the past, A skate story presents the genre in a whole new light. The devil, the pain causing moon, and an underworld full of bizarre characters are definitely not common in the world of skate games, and this can prove to be A skate storythe biggest force at launch on PS Plus.
