For some time now, the cast of the upcoming action movies Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat have been taking shots at each other, either on stage at The Game Awards or in interviews ahead of the films' scheduled release date. It's exactly the kind of real beef that makes the making of both movies that little bit more interesting.
But it turns out the beef isn't just limited to those on opposing movie sets. No. Because, at least according to WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, he and Roman Reigns have some real issues too. Issues that seemingly prevented Guile (Rhodes) and Akuma (Reigns) from interacting with each other on set.
In a recent appearance on Chris Van Vliet's in-depth interview, Rhodes revealed that things between him and Reigns are a little frosty, long after the duo settled their televised issues at WrestleMania in the wrestling ring.
Ragdoll Physics is the best thing to happen to WWE 2K in decades
WWE 2K26 is gloriously violent in the most video game way possible.
“I think they thought we were going to struggle or have real problems because they were very well informed about us on the radio. [and saying]”Guil goes out, Akuma comes in,” Rhodes said (thanks to IGN for the transcript). “They were very aware that we weren't going to cross paths. And we did because I had to tell him the direction of one of the trailers and that was our only moment and it was very awkward.”
All this could end up being an elaborate ruse
It is unclear if there is any moment that would lead either superstar to continue to have issues with each other. The two headlined WrestleMania main events against each other, taking shots at each other's abilities, families and skills in the storyline leading up to those events.
“It's a crazy relationship,” Rhodes said. “I have nothing but admiration for what he's done and accomplished, but I don't know what it is. I don't even like to talk about it because I don't know what it is. It's just a very special relationship.”
The filming of Street Fighter took place long after their in-ring feud ended, so it's not like they had to be separated to keep the kayfabe or in-ring magic alive in case there were cameras watching.
There's also a really good chance that this is all speculation on Rhodes' part. Wrestlers are almost always in character, and as honest as the conversations on Van Vliet's show were, Rhodes could have simply embellished some things to make it seem like the two weren't on good terms in case they ever feuded again.
In other words, good wrestlers lie, and they lie a lot. Rhodes is no exception.
However, if there is real beef, then it's a shame that it doesn't have to lead to a battle between Guile and Akuma in the movie. Isn't that what Street Fighter is all about?
