If Pidgeot taught us anything, it's that flying-type Pokemon are usually stuck with boring secondary types, but luckily, Pokemon Legends: ZA brings some of the most powerful options from the series. The base game gave us a solid group of Flying-type Pokemon to enjoy, but those with Mega Evolutions became much more valuable once the Mega Dimension DLC dropped.
Rogue Mega Pokémon dictate the meta game in Mega Dimension, as the best method to defeat these raging Pokémon is to fight fire with fire. You'll benefit from flying-type Pokemon that can Mega Evolve and deal a lot of damage to the Rogue Mega Pokemon bosses you'll face on your way in Hyperspace Lumiose.
Flying-type Pokémon from the base game are included, but the context of the Mega Dimension DLC greatly affects the new locations.

Flamigo may be one of the most bizarre Pokemon ever created. After all, he's basically just a flamingo who can't cast spells, but a closer look at his stats tells something else. This Pokémon's Attack stat stands out as the clear leader of its base stat total (BST), and its secondary battle typing means it can utilize a wider range of coverage moves.
Pokemon Legends: ZA – Mega Dimension: How to get Runerigus
Who comes up with these evolutionary requirements?
Fortunately, the Fighting and Flying weaknesses don't overlap to cause a quadruple weakness, but you don't get many defensive resistances from the combination either. Flamigo could be even higher on this list if he had access to his abilities like in the main series games, but he still serves as a decent option to use at the start of your Hyperspace Lumiose adventure.

Crobat is one of the best Flying-type options added in the Mega Dimension DLC, but it's best used against opponents that don't boast many cover moves, as this Pokemon's defense is quite fragile. Fortunately, Crobat can usually attack multiple times in a row thanks to his incredibly high 130 base speed, giving you a chance to finish battles quickly.
However, you'll be relying on physical moves like Aerial Ace, Dual Wingbeat, and Sky Attack, which aren't necessarily as good as a stronger variant like Hurricane. Despite his limitations, Crobat will serve you well as you progress through the DLC, offering solid Poison coverage to keep your team selection flexible enough to work around his weaknesses.

Talonflame's BST isn't nearly as impressive, but luckily its high speed allows you to use a lot of attacks for open battles, which can be the difference between a quick victory and a drawn-out encounter. Unfortunately, this Fire and Flying type bird is still waiting for a Mega Evolution, or it could have been one of the strongest Pokemon available in the Mega Dimension DLC.
Even so, his physical attack abilities are solid and will help you get the job done early on in the DLC, but you'll quickly find more extensive options to choose from, especially if you don't mind dealing with a quadruple weakness to Rock-type moves. Talonflame's move pool is easily its biggest draw, with access to a ton of coverage moves alongside Dual Wingbeat and Sky Attack.

Corviknight is something of an antithesis to Crobat, as this Pokemon is a Flying-type and a Steel-type, the latter of which is outright resistant to Poison attacks. Additionally, while Crobat was a fast Pokemon focused on attacking as quickly and as often as possible, Corviknight is much slower and its main draw is centered around tanking hits and shrinking enemy HP bars.
Corviknight's offense may not be stellar, but this Pokemon is an excellent tank that can act as a pivot when your main attacker goes down in battle, while also offering you a chance to heal and recharge for a counter attack. Complete immunity to Poison and Ground attacks greatly helps this Pokémon stand out as a wall, while eight additional resistances ensure that it will only be in danger against a few types.

Hawlucha is a direct upgrade over Flamig, with the main difference being this Pokemon's access to a powerful Mega Evolution, which greatly improves its rather tame BST. Hawlucha buffs her attack to 137 as she Mega evolves, with additional boosts to both of her defenses to ensure she has what it takes to tank some hits and hang around long enough to finish off her opponents.
Mega Hawlucha's 600 BST does a lot of the heavy lifting, but his access to a number of physical moves, including Brick Break, Brave Bird, and his signature move, Flying Press, ensure he can hit many enemies hard. Mega Hawlucha can take on Rogue Mega Pokemon effectively and justifies being brought into the DLC from the start due to its viability in main story battles.

Charizard can counter Rock-type attacks, but this Pokemon offers a major upgrade over Talonflame thanks to its superior BST and access to two Mega Evolutions. However, Mega Charizard Y is a clear choice for the Flying type's superior viability, as it receives massive boosts to its stats that allow it to hit hard with moves like Hurricane.
159 Special Attack is an incredibly strong starting point, and 100 or higher in both Defense and Speed makes Charizard stand out as one of the best flying-type Pokemon available. Take advantage of its massive special attack and watch counter Pokemon melt away while Charizard barely scratches if you keep it away from electric and rock moves.

As far as Mega Pokemon options go, Staraptor is easily one of the best new Mega Evolutions added to Mega Dimension, despite the fact that you won't get a boost from the base form's BST. After Mega Evolving, Staraptor's attack jumps to 140 with a massive increase in Defense, Special Defense and Speed.
The ability to tank hits is key for Pokémon that can Mega Evolve, as you'll need to refill their Mega Energy and Mega Evolve them again if they pass out in their Mega forms. Fortunately, the Staraptor becomes much more survivable and does not suffer from any of the four weaknesses.

Rayquaza flies high above the pack as the best flying-type Pokémon in the Mega Dimension DLC, and arguably the best Pokémon among its legendary peers. While his BST is already impressive, Mega Rayquaza can use powerful signature moves like Dragon Ascent and Hurricane to decimate Flying-weak enemies.
The only downside to this Pokemon is how long it will take to encounter, as you won't be able to access it until the very end of the postgame DLC. Despite the wait, Rayquaza's power is worth it, as it outshines the competition in almost every category.
