The two best RPGs ever made will not get a sequel for various reasons

RPGs have an important role in the gaming industry. It is one of the classic genres of games that dates back to the table space with games such as D&D, entering the age of video games with Rogue, Wizardry and Ultima. Soon afterwards, JRPG was born as Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior) and Final Fantasy, while Western RPGs have evolved into their own sub -groups, whether it is JRPG as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, or something further than traditional RPGs like Skyrim.

But when we think about RPG in 2025, there is one modern classic that stands out – the one that immediately comes to the mind of most people, either for deep narration, incredible writing, or a choice that you can go to during the experience. This game is of course the Baldur Gate 3.

But even if I agree that Baldur's gate 3 is one of the best RPGs we have ever seen, there is another that can stand on the same level for all the features I mentioned, and correspond to Lara's masterpiece at so many levels. That The game is Disco Elysium.

And yet, tragically, nor will he ever get a real sequel.

Although the Divinity: Original Sin 2, a great choice for RPG fans who want to see Larian built his expertise RPG in front of BG3.

Baldur's Gate 4 will never be what we want, and that's good

Baldur's Gate 3

I say that we will never get the sequel to Baldur's gate 3, I am not saying that one day we will not see the Baldur's gate 4; In fact, I would bet that in the next decade we have seen watching (which sounds like a long time, but I think the games take a long time, I think). For the game you love, it just will not be a real sequel, just like most Baldur's Gate 3 fans will not play BG1 & 2, nor will they probably enjoy them in the same way.

We have known for some time that Larian will not hold another record in the Baldur's Gate Series series, because the studio is trying to move to other IP while avoiding the limits of the D&D combat system. It is likely that the team will work on divinity instead: Original Sin 3 or something completely new. And honestly, this is the best step we could hope for Larian.

It would be difficult to watch the game as colossal as the Baldur Gate 3 and bring the same level of worship (see: Bethesda's post-Skyrim RPgs, Fallout 4 and Starfield), so it is best to leave it to a completely different studio that can approach it in a new and unique way. Instead, Larian can work on something with less pressure and greater freedom, which will eventually lead to a much better product – one that the Baldur's fans should be enthusiastic about.

Disco Elysium 2 probably will never exist and should not

On the other hand, Disco Elysium is an incredible detective RPG that uses text systems to display a murky city and an even crazy mind. While the game is more compact compared to the Baldur Gate of 3, it is full of deep characters, the secrets to be revealed, and countless ways to be their detective duties. You could even have just a mental disintegration and end the game before you start.

However, Disco Elysium suffers from the same unfortunate fate of the future without a real continuation. There are fewer reasons … good and is generally a chaotic and unclear study situation, for/UM and several individuals who previously worked on Disco Elysia and its definitive edition, Final Cut. It's a big mess, but a long story short: no discos 2.

It is still a very painful topic for fans and one who still has new evidence of the canceled sequel this year. If this is not enough, in 2024, three new studies concerning developers who no longer work in Za/UM announced three new games that feel like spiritual watching. Although it is a somewhat silver lining surrounding the situation Disco Elysie and for/UM, it is certainly a little more bitter than Larian's decision to retreat and move from the Baldur Gate 3.

In two of the largest, most impressive and appreciated RPG generations, ending with a lack of real sequels, something irony is. Maybe it is the best and that all the strongest creators involved in both situations will do new, equally impressive things. Only time will show it, but where these beloved titles rest, they rest well.
