Unfortunately for Steve, he isn't even able to fulfill his dreams of getting with Claire because he mutates late in the story and ends up losing his life, all because of his father's transgressions.

Becoming a large water creature can be quite dangerous for the protagonist and Del Lago Resident Evil 4 is a prime example of this. However, Irving happens to get a form that has large exposed sacks on its surface, and also floats right next to a cruise ship that has several Gatling guns, making it an easy target. If Resident Evil the gods were a little fairer to the guy, he might have had a fighting chance, but not in this reality.
