HumanitZ has finally seen its official launch in early 2026. After years of Early Access and thousands of players surviving in this world, the game has received a massive update that changes how many systems work and what you can expect from the future of the game. For example, the upgrade or infection systems have been reworked.
Whether you're from past years or a brand new player, we've gathered some explanations and tips to help you have less of a hard time with all the zeeks around. Let's go through our beginner tips and tricks for HumanitZ.
How to choose a profession
Whenever you start a new game, you will be able to choose a profession for your character. These range from Unemployed to Elektro
The engineer and what you should choose depends entirely on how you want to play. To learn more about each of them, you can check out our careers guide.
While choosing one will seep into how you play for a nice hour line, it's worth saying that you can unlock a second profession and even a third as you play. The second one will require you to be level 30, and the third one will require you to be level 60. However, keep in mind that you don't level up as fast as in Early Access.

By the way, after your profession, you have to choose an Affinity for your character. Unless for some sadistic reason you don't want to make things difficult right from the start, we recommend skipping it for the first few hours.
Starter Zone, leave the rest for now
The next thing you need to select before starting a new run is the Spawn Point. This basically decides at which point on the map you spawn, which drastically changes the following things: the amount of resources and loot, nearby buildings, and the number of zeeks.
For starters, simply select the Starter Spawn. This may sound obvious, but the options are many and can be a bit confusing. At the same time, if you want to start with a little more difficulty, you can check out our selection of the best Spawn Points.
Get or craft a weapon, ASAP
You can knock out zombies with your bare fists. You knock them down and then you can hold G and choke them or do a grab that kills them in seconds. However, this special attack takes time, costs half your stamina, and also leaves you vulnerable to other zombies. So it's only really viable in one-on-one combat.
This is why it's really important that you find or craft a weapon as soon as possible. It doesn't matter if it's a firearm, a sophisticated knife, or a makeshift ax you've created with two stones. You have to have a decent weapon to defend yourself or you want to last a long time. Also be aware that noise is a huge factor and attracts a lot of enemies in this game.
The initial quests are great
When you take your first steps, you'll notice that you have a task window at the bottom left of your screen. These are beginner quests and will walk you through simple tasks step by step to teach you what you can craft and where you can get the resources you need.
It might not look that useful at first glance, but it's the type of hold that can really make a difference in a game like this.
If you don't want these tasks and want to play at your own pace, you can disable the tasks in the Settings menu.
How the infection system works
Another thing that has been overhauled in version 1.0 is the way you get infected by zombies. Now, whenever you get damaged by zeek, your infection level will start to rise. You'll see it as a small green icon with a skull next to your life bar.
If a zombie just hits you, it will go up slowly, but if it grabs you and bites you, half the gauge will fill up. Get to 100 percent and you're dead.
This is why you must take your battles against zombies seriously. You have ways to deal with the infection, either with drugs that cure 50 percent of your infection, or with an Infection Inhibitor that you can craft to gradually reduce your infection.
Unlock as many skill trees as possible
If you've been playing on Early Access, you'll notice that the skill system has changed in version 1.0. Skills are now locked to professions or categories/groups. In the latter case, you need to complete certain tasks in the game in order to see the group's skill tree and start unlocking upgrades.
For example, the bow skill tree asks you to craft one bow, one arrow, and kill 25 enemies with that weapon.
There are several of these factions that can take you a few hours to unlock, especially if you're playing the game for the first time. But you should make it a priority to upgrade your character much better in terms of combat, traversal, survivability, builds and more.

A big aspect of HumanitZ is managing your inventory. In addition to finding or crafting backpacks to increase what you can carry at any given time, you can also craft storage containers that allow you to store many items in them. The best part? You can build multiple storage containers and leave them inside the buildings you want.
To create one of these you will need seven wood, one scrap metal and ten nails.
Don't forget the console commands if you die too much
The tips written in this guide up to this point aim to make your life in HumanitZ a little easier, but still maintain a certain level of challenge. After all, we believe that's what the game is all about: having an exciting and fair challenge.
