Chrono Trigger, released in 1995, is widely considered one of the largest RPGs of all time. The project was led by “Dream Team” Square Enix from Hironob Sakaguchi, Yuji Horia and Akira Toriyam and created a successful series.
Now it has been 30 years since the release of Chrono Trigger and Square Enix plans to mark this opportunity by a number of events. At the ceremony (translated by Gemmatsu) on the social media, Square Enix teased the upcoming plans for Chrono Trigger: “We are planning various projects on the occasion of the 30th anniversary and expressing gratitude to anyone who played Chrono Trigger.”
30 years of chrono trigger
The first ceremony is a special stream representing the music of Chrono Trigger, which will start at 22:00 et March 14. Unfortunately, for a few selected fans who are eagerly waiting for another Chrono game, the Square Enix is very unlikely to announce something in that vein. Instead, the festive events are likely to focus on the heritage of Chrono Trigger and how the game formed modern JRPG.
Chrono Trigger has not been a priority for the Square Enix for a long time. The latest major development received by the series was the critically affected PC Port 2018. This version of Chrono Trigger was criticized for significant graphic problems, poor user interfaces and many other problems. After its release, the developer Deltarune Fred Wood perfectly compared the Chrono Trigger Port with “something first attempt to play RPG manufacturer”.
Square Enix has a wide range of IPs in its pending amount, but the company recently announced that it is planning to focus on “quality” with Triple-A after poor sale for certain titles, including Rebirth Fantasy 7. on PlayStation 5 for its big edition.
The Square Enix window only announced is for Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD remake to be released sometime in 2025. The third installment in the remake 7 remake, Kingdom Hearts 4 and Dragon Quest 12 currently does not have the release data.
