If there is one thing Cobra Kai love, it's a total karate brawl. Season 2 culminated in a school-wide brawl that resulted in Miguel being seriously injured. In Season 3, Cobra Kai students descended on Lawrusso's mansion and Eli stepped up to defend Demetri. Season 5 featured an amazing reunion of all of Daniel's former rivals teaming up to face Terry Silver and his team of bad senses. Cobra Kai uses these fun and re-watches not only to showcase the action, but also to mark turning points in the series. Season 6, Part 2 featured the biggest brawl of all, with a tournament-wide fight at the Sekai Taikai. Its tragic ending, resulting in the character's death, is the most important ending to each of these battles.

Sekai Takai may be cancelled

Tensions were high during Axel and Robby's match. Frustrated with Robby's defensive strategy, Axel asked if he was going to fight and pushed him to where some Cobra Kai fighters were standing. Kwon elbowed Robby in the side causing Miguel to defend him. Axel, who has fallen in love with Sam, jumps in, eager for the chance to face Miguel. Sekai Takai's host, Gunther Braun, was about to stop the fight when he was knocked out by Tiger Strike's Sensei Ivanov.

Team Tiger Strike was disqualified for doping and returned to seek revenge. With Gunter out, no one could stop the ensuing chaos. Students fought students. Senseis fought against sensei. Kwon attacked Axel, but ended up stabbing himself with the knife, resulting in his death. Gunther woke up just in time to see what had happened and asked for the cameras to be turned off.

While this season has revealed that the odd death can happen during these tournaments, there's a chance that one has never been televised before. Additionally, the lack of sportsmanship during an international tournament meant to celebrate the skills of competitors around the world would no doubt lead to families and news outlets questioning the ethics of the Sekai Taikai.

While it may seem anticlimactic, the cancellation of Sekai Taikai could serve as a reset Cobra Kai. Instead of competing, the remaining episodes could have focused on the characters saying goodbye and reflecting on what learning karate meant to them. It was never about the trophies. It was always about the bonds these characters formed.

Old enemies can make amends

in the core Cobra Kai and The Karate Kid films are about relationships between fathers and sons. Daniel, whose father died before the events of the first The Karate Kid film, he found a positive father figure in Mr. Miyagi. IN Cobra KaiJohnny explains that his father left when he was in kindergarten and his mother married Sid Weinberg, who had no interest in being a real stepfather. Johnny became who he is under the ruthless guidance of John Krees. While Daniel flourished in large part thanks to Mr. Miyagi, Johnny was not so lucky, living as a miserable handyman at the start of the series.

While Daniel and Johnny have grown as both fathers and fathers to their biological children over the course of the series, their relationships with their mentors still have a profound effect on them. In Season 6, Episode 2, Johnny gives the Miyagi-Do students a less-than-stellar pep talk that comes from him projecting his own past. Kreese himself struggled with his affection for Johnny, calling it a “weakness” and trying to suppress it. Despite this, Johnny proves to be the bigger man when he defends Krees against Silver. This act could finally set in motion a reconciliation between the two men. Despite their best efforts, they mean a lot to each other and are family just like Daniel and Mr. Miyagi.

Kwon's death ties into Miyagi's past

Kwon's death was foreshadowed by the revelation earlier this season that Mr. Miyagi, the franchise's most popular mentor, had once killed another competitor in the Sekai Taikai. (Not an uncommon trope in the martial arts genre.) Daniel is understandably shaken by this, but just looking at the contest sheet might not tell the whole story.

After all, Axel had no intention of killing Kwon; Kwon accidentally stabbed himself. It is possible that Miyagi's situation was similar. Or maybe Miyagi killed a competitor in an accident, which led to him changing his karate philosophy and deciding to teach Daniel a defensive approach. Perhaps the only reason why he agreed to train Daniel for the tournament in the first The Karate Kid the film was because he recognized Kreese's relentless attitude as similar to the one he once shared. Regardless, even though Daniel wasn't able to get answers during this part of the season, it's likely that he will get some answers before the finale.

It's hard to say goodbye Cobra Kai. It's the rare sequel series that not only dominates the ratings, but also receives critical acclaim/ It doesn't just revel in nostalgia, it builds on it with great action and a lot of heart. Now that the show has thrown down its biggest drama gauntlet, the stakes are higher than ever. That said, with the love these creators and actors have for their characters, it's bound to end with a bang.
