Update 1.5 brought a lot of content Stardew Valleyincluding Island Field Office with Professor Snail. Here you can trade fossils and get some golden walnuts along with other rewards. In this guide, we'll look at how to get every fossil needed for the field office.
Stardew Valley: Everything you need to know about Ginger Island
Ginger Island is the hub of endgame challenges for Stardew Valley – here's a quick overview of the area.
You will need to complete the Community Center to access this content. Once you've done that, you'll have one more task to repair Willy's ship on Ginger Island. This will require 200 hardwood, five batteries and five 
Iridium Bars. After collecting these materials, you can go to Ginger Island.
Updated November 25, 2025 Gabrielle Castania: Finding all the Ginger Island Fossils in Stardew Valley can be a long and tedious process. We've updated this guide with a bit more information to help you quickly find all 11 fossils, as well as what you can hope to receive as a reward if you've already collected all of your golden walnuts.
How to unlock a field office
Before donating fossils you will have to unlock the Ginger Island field office. This is pretty easy so let's go through the steps to unlock office.
First you will have to repair the bridge leading to the excavation site. From the beach where 
Willy dock the ship, head north. You will enter a new area with a path leading to a tent. To the left of this tent you will see a a river with a broken bridge.
To repair the bridge, you will have to pay ten gold nuts to the parrot next door.
The bridge will then be repaired and you can enter the excavation area. Use a bomb or explosive ammo to remove the boulder in front of the cave at the top of the site. This will be free 
Professor Snailwhich operates the Ginger Island Field Office. Once freed, he will talk about the various flora and fauna of Ginger Island, allowing you to contribute.
you will need to donate a total of 11 fossils, so we'll explore them next time. Each collection will also have individual rewards.
Luck does not affect the chances of finding a fossil! If you get unlucky, you can still safely search for fossils.
Where to find snake fossils
You will need a snake to complete three fossils; a snake skull and two snake vertebrae. Below you can see the table where you can find them.

Overall, you can find all these fossils on the west side of Ginger Island, where Birdie and Island Farm are located.
To get here you will need to approach the turtle on the left side of the starting beach and pay a nearby parrot ten golden walnuts. This is a one-time purchase; after paying, you can enter Island West as often as you like.

To complete the large mammal you will need six fossils. These can be found in various locations around the island, so we'll go through them below.
How to get golden coconuts
You may have noticed that the skull can only be found in Golden Coconuts. These are coconuts that act similar to geodes and artifacts.
Golden coconuts can be found around the island from Artifacts or palm trees. Alternatively, you can trade ten normal coconuts for one Golden Coconut at Island Trader. This is a vendor that you can unlock for ten golden walnuts after purchasing Island Farmhouse. Because of this, it may be faster for you to find the Golden Coconut first.
Where to find a mummified frog

This is a very easy fossil to obtain. A mummified frog can be found cutting weeds in jungle area. You can find the entrance to the jungle on the right side of the beach with Willy's boat. If you are in the area, you just swing your sword or scythe until all the grass is cut.
If for some reason you don't get a frog, wait a while for the grass to grow again and then come back with a sharp weapon in hand.
There is only one part of the mummified frog, so once you find it, you're done with that part of the collection.

Similar to the mummified frog, it exists only one piece of this fossil. You can find a mummified bat by breaking rocks in the Volcano Dungeon. This is the northernmost area of Ginger Island.
There is a a one in 200 chance of finding a mummified bat when breaking rocks. It's not very cool, but it can speed up the search process bring a powerful pickaxe and some bombs too.
By placing a 
Bombard down (and run away from the explosion), you can clean large sections of stones which potentially holds a mummified bat.
Accidentally getting rid of fossils
Did you accidentally sell or throw away a fossil? Fortunately, you can find these fossils more than once. All you have to do is use the above methods to find it again. It is highly likely that you will naturally find more fossil copies when exploring the island.
If you happen to have extra fossils that you don't need, you can sell them. Every fossil piece will I will sell for 100g. It's not the best considering the high cost of many late game items, but it's still better than nothing.
Bone Mill And Fossils
The Bone Grinder is part of the equipment you can get after completing the Fragments of the Past special order. This allows you to insert bone items, which in return gives you various fertilizers. If you have extra fossils, this is a great way to use them!
Rewards for completing the entire collection
In addition to the rewards for each fossil, you will get a reward after completing the entire collection. Once you turn in 11 fossils, you will be rewarded with a recipe for 
Incubator for ostriches. This is a special incubator that allows you to hatch an ostrich from an egg.
The recipe calls for 50 Bone Shards, 50 Hardwood Shards, and 20 Cinder Shards. Once created, you can place an ostrich egg inside. It will take around ten days before the egg hatches. When the egg hatches, you'll have your own 
Ostrichwhich lays one egg every seven days.
One normal quality 
Ostrich eggs has a base price of 600g. After putting in the mayonnaise machine the egg will make a pile of ten mayonnaises. Although this only happens once a week, it's still a better rate than usual 
Chickenswho can anyone only produce up to seven standard glasses 
Mayonnaise in a week.
