A total of six of Professor Oak's assistants are scattered throughout the Kanto region Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Each of them gives trainers a reward for filling the Pokedex with a certain number of unique species of Pokémon caught.
Aside from the very first Professor Oak's Sidekick, the rest are optional encounters that can be easily missed by players who aren't guarding them. Since some of the rewards on offer are incredibly tempting, it's very helpful to know where to find these elusive scientists.
