And it wouldn't be a Sonic game without some collectibles. Space Ark Colony is the very first stage you'll play with Shadow, and it's not afraid to throw you right into the deep end. Here's our guide to getting an S rating on both acts and where to find all the hidden keys.


How to get an S rank space ark colony

Achieving S Rank is always a coveted prize in any Sonic game, and Sonic X Shadow Generations is no different. even better Shadow has a much tighter and more refined control scheme compared to Modern Sonic in the base game, making every Shadow level that much more fun to perfection.


Space Ark Colony Act 1 S Rank

Space Ark Colony Act 1 is one of Shadow's longest levels in the entire game, probably due to the fact that it introduces all of its mechanics right from the start, as well as its long-awaited villain, Black Doom. Reaching an S rank in this Act 1 is quite generousthough because of its length you don't want to make too many mistakes.

All keys you collect during the mission will be saved after completion
allowing you to fully focus on getting an S Rank.

The key thing is control your speed. If you drive too fast, you can miss certain jumps that will allow you to reach the destination even faster. You'll want to master Shadow's Homing Attack as well, as it allows him to do so bypass all laser fields if attacking artificial chaos enemies behind them.


Sections of the Radical Highway can be particularly dangerous one wrong jump can lead you to instant death. If you are not sure if you want to jump, choose a safer route. It's better to go a little slow than fall to your death and have to start over from the last checkpoint.

Chaos Control allows Shadow to temporarily stop time. This is necessary both to create paths from many rockets, but also to make Shadow's path safer. Missile hits waste valuable time, especially when they fire so unpredictably. Never be afraid to use Chaos Control where they are involved.

As an added bonus,
Chaos Control also freezes the in-game timer
allowing you to save a few extra seconds each time you use it.

Whenever under five minutes with approximately 40,000 points an A rank is guaranteed. All you have to do to get to S Rank is get Perfect Clear, which you get by beating the law without dying once.


Space Ark Colony Act 2 S Rank

The second act of Sonic X Shadow Generations is significantly shorter than Act 1 and does not contain any Radical Highway sections. However, it is a pure Space Ark colony adds a healthy amount of tricks of its own.

Act 2 has a lot more sections where you have to watch your stance if you want to get to the finish line quickly. Random boosts can cause you to miss a certain lane in order to grindor a poorly timed homing attack can cause you to fall into the lower parts of the map. Keep this in mind especially for side-scrolling sections.

The gravity poles will probably be your strongest enemy in this act. However, they only appear in side-scrolling sections it can be hard to really judge where you're jumping. You might not die jumping from them, but you're probably still wasting time navigating. If there is no peak on them, be sure to increase them. There is usually a faster way.


Towards the end of the level, you'll start encountering sections that require Doom Wings. These are not required to obtain S Rankalthough they will absolutely help save you time if you've been making mistakes so far.

Doom Wings is only
activates automatically if you play without Doom Wings
. You have to activate them yourself if you already have the ability, as confusing as it sounds.

The Doom Spear switches you can hit will be the next biggest obstacle, so if you don't activate them fast enough, you'll hit the wall. Holding the Doom Spear button they'll automatically lock you in as soon as they appear, taking the guesswork out of it.

Note that during Chaos Control however your Doom Spears don't move eithermeaning you have to be even closer to the switches to activate them.


Completion of this Act with time under three minutes and a score of at least 40,000 will give you an A rank, while Perfect Clear will boost it up to an S rank.

Where to find every collection box key in Ark Space Colony

In every act of Shadow Generations, whether they are main acts or challenge acts, there are three keys to find which open various collection boxes around White Space. They're called keys, but they look like medals. Go for it.

Space Ark Colony Collection Keys 1

The three keys in Space Ark Colony Act 1 are all found before the Radical Highway sectionallowing you to go through this section without worry. Here is the approximate location of each key.

  • The first Shadow's History Key has been found just before your first anti-gravity wall. Instead of approaching it, take the bouncing pad up and use your asteroid homing attack to land on the grindstone. Jump at the very end to reach the roof with the key.
  • The second music key can be found just before the section with the missile, which you must destroy with Chaos Control. When falling through the air, use Chaos Control when all the rockets line up and create a path. You can find the key at the end of it.
  • The third artwork key can be found in inner part with all sanding bars. To achieve this, you must use your homing attack on the flying robots to reach the Dash Ring. This will take you to a higher grinding rail and automatically pick up the wrench at the end.


Make sure complete the Act after collecting all three save from them.

If you die before reaching a checkpoint, you will have to

Space Ark Colony Act 2 Collection Box Keys

Shadow dashes down the path while Chaos Control is active in Sonic x Shadow Generations.

The three keys in Act 2 of Space Ark Colony are more extensive than in Act 1with the final key only appearing at the very end of the Act.

  • The first musical key is located right at the beginning. After passing the checkpoint, you can accelerate down the hill. Stop and jump to the raised part instead. Grab the handle and pull yourself up and the key is waiting for you.
  • The second Artwork Key can be found moments later, near the Gravity Poles. The key will be placed on the first gravity bar with a peak. You have to jump to it from the other gravity pole, but be careful not to accidentally jump into the Dash Ring.
  • The third Shadow's History Key can be found in the next side-scrolling section with the Gravity Poles after you outrun a few rockets. Raise the first gravity bar to find some flying robots. Use your homing attack to land on the rail and at the end use your homing attack to reach the next rail where the key awaits.
