Racers can expect challenges like ring collecting, speed and difficulty in the new Skyrocket Races.
World of Warcraft adds not one but two new race types to Patch 11.1: Breakneck DRIVE races and Skyrocketing races that feature flying goblin jetpacks. These two race types replace their Skyriding counterparts in Undermine, a zone coming in the first major content update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.
Aptly named Undermined, Patch 11.1 brings World of Warcraft players to Undermine, the sprawling underground metropolis and capital of the Goblins. Despite its size, the massive zone won't allow fans to fly, instead relying on DRIVE – a dynamic, customizable mount-like car that can zip through city streets even faster than parachuting. When it was first introduced, World of Warcraft also confirmed new Breakneck races that will make the most of the DRIVE system.

The second series of Plunderstorm is coming to World of Warcraft, bringing with it new abilities, features and rewards for pirates and players alike.
However, there is actually a second race type coming in the patch. Rocket Races are a new type of challenge where you mount instead of traditional flying or parachuting World of Warcraftuse the goblin jetpack to blast through the sky. During races, players use a new style of movement that strikes a balance between the two existing flying systems, as they cannot stop in mid-air like Steady flight, but do not lose momentum or altitude like Skyriding. As seen in the footage he provided WoW content creator MrGM from Public Test Realm, racers gain speed with each ring they collect – but the faster they go, the less reactive their spin becomes, making Skyrocket racing more difficult than it first appears.
New Skyrocket Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
Since there is no Skyriding in Undermine, there are no Skyriding events in the zone either. This means that both Breakneck and Skyrocket races will have achievements for completing each race with bronze, silver and gold times. There are also reverse versions of all four Skyrocket and DRIVE Breakneck races World of Warcraftalthough it doesn't look like they have any advanced or Challenge courses like some of the Skyriding races.

The initial reception of these new Skyrocket races was mixed. While some fans are excited to try them out, others think that flying looks incredibly stiff and unresponsive, especially compared to parachuting. Fortunately, World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 is still in development, so these races still have time to make further improvements before they are available with an update, probably sometime in February.
