Xbox Game Pass maybe he will add the original soon Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to its content library, as suggested by a new ad that appears to prematurely confirm the addition. While the evidence isn't conclusive, it wouldn't be the first time Microsoft has inadvertently revealed the arrival of Xbox Game Pass in advance.
Originally released in November 2009 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, Modern Warfare 2 became one of the most respected critics Call of Duty games ever made. Xbox Game Pass subscribers have been clamoring for it to be added to the service since Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in late 2023.
The original Modern Warfare 2 spotted in a new Xbox Game Pass ad
Microsoft may finally be responding to those demands, as suggested by a new Xbox Game Pass Premium ad promoting a $1 trial of the service. As noted by Reddit user TypicalNarr, the collage used in the background of the ad features a Modern Warfare 2 cover near the top center of the image. The image appears to show the cover belonging to the original from 2009, not 2020 Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Campaign.
Developments of this nature alone offer little conclusive evidence of future Xbox Game Pass releases. Microsoft's marketing team could have simply included Modern Warfare 2 accidentally overlay the ad when building the visual. However, this banner isn't the first sign that the iconic first-person shooter might be heading to a subscription service. Earlier this year, XboxEra announced that the original Modern Warfare 2 was coming to Xbox Game Pass, citing sources close to Microsoft. The report proposed a March-April 2025 release, which ultimately did not materialize. PUSH was AND Modern Warfare 2 will arrive in May, but that was a 2022 reboot rather than the 2009 original. If the new ad is accurate, XboxEra's report may have been correct, just the timing.
Xbox Game Pass may soon offer half a dozen Call of Duty titles
Modern Warfare 2 would make it the sixth (without F2P) Call of Duty the recording will be available on Microsoft's subscription service, at least assuming it arrives later Black Ops 7 Xbox Game Pass will arrive on November 14th. While the shooter will be added to the XGP library, it remains unclear if it will include all the content. It's more likely that Microsoft will only offer a single-player campaign. Such a move would prevent players from being drawn away from the latest Call of Duty release while giving longtime fans a chance to revisit classic missions.
