A Norwegian electronics store is giving away Grand Theft Auto 6 free, but fans must have a child on release day to qualify for the offer. It's been a long road for the long-awaited Rockstar title so far, and while the end of the wait is now finally in sight, the frenzy that accompanies it is far from over. How retailers prepare for the release Grand Theft Auto 6at least one unconventional marketing scheme for the game has already surfaced.
GTA 6The release window has been uncertain for most of the past two years. Rockstar has delayed its launch twice, and stories of layoffs and heavy developer workloads have fueled fears of further delays as information-hungry fans have gone without any official updates from the studio. But now Take-Two Interactive has confirmed it again GTA 6The release date is November 19, and it has promised to kick off a marketing effort this summer, allaying many of those concerns. Some players who want to pick up a copy on the day now have the opportunity to do so for free, but the demands are steep.

Take-Two's CEO confidently states that Rockstar is fully focused on making Grand Theft Auto 6 the best game anyone has ever seen.
Players in Norway can get GTA 6 for free by having a baby on release day
In a February 11 Instagram post, Norwegian electronics retailer Komplett announced that it would be giving away free copies GTA 6 to anyone who has a child on the day of its launch. While the post didn't include the usual list of conditions that gifts come with, it began by saying “this isn't really a joke,” making the offer, as ridiculous as it sounds, legitimate. Technically, there's still time to act on that too GTA 6 is roughly nine months away at the time of writing, so a baby conceived now, on February 12th, has a chance of being born on November 19th, when the game comes out.

Many game companies have been involved in big giveaways before. Just last year, Microsoft gave away the habit Expedition 33– themed Xbox Series X and promotional links where fans can find download codes for certain food and drinks are fairly common. Still, it's not every day that a store gives away a game for having a baby. However, the timing of the announcement makes a special sense. It just happens GTA 6 drops roughly nine months after Valentine's Day 2026, and while that's probably what Rockstar was planning when they pushed the game to its current release date, Komplett presents a great opportunity for an eye-catching promotional piece.
Whether anyone will try to take advantage of the offer remains to be seen. There are some rumors that GTA 6 it can cost as much as $100, although others have dismissed that claim. Regardless, Rockstar has yet to confirm a price, and it's hard to ignore a free-to-play game, especially one as big as GTA 6, in any context. Having a baby is a much more expensive life choice than even a $100 video game, so the Komplett offer doesn't really save money, but in theory it could make a nice gift for anyone who happens to have a baby that day.
Child promotions aside, the reminder that the game is only nine months away comes as a sigh of relief. While there are still rumors that GTA 6 is not yet complete in terms of content, Take-Two's doubling down on a November 19th release date in its recent financial report seems to clear up many, if not all, of the concerns about further delays. The long-awaited launch is finally in sight, whether some new parent gets a free copy or not.
