Pokemon Legends: ZAThe Mega Dimension DLC doesn't seem to be getting any major updates for the foreseeable future aside from new rewards, codes for free items, and ranked seasons. However, these can still fundamentally change how the game plays and plays, especially as the meta changes competitively. Pokemon Legends: ZASeason 6 will begin shortly on January 29th, and it's already confirmed to be a bloodbath. With several new meta-warping Legendary, the game will never be the same and all the fun you had in ranked battles will most likely end.
Before we dive into how limited Legendary will affect the meta, let's set the stage by reviewing the Tier 5 meta. From now on, the game revolves around powerful attackers that can hit hard and fast, such as Swords of Justice, Volcanion, and Magearna. WITH Pokemon Legends: ZAMega Evolutions still play a major role, clearly focusing on heavy offensive threats, but the approach has been balanced with defensive checks and counter plays.
-
Volcanion brings both bulk and offensive power, often performing fire and water moves to hit a wide variety of enemies hard. It's a hard Pokemon to break, especially with its Fire/Water typing.
-
Magearna is popular for her high special attack and wide move pool, allowing her to serve as both an offensive and support asset to teams. It also gained a new Mega Evolution in the game.
-
Armarouge similarly finds its niche with its Fire/Psychic typing and ability to hit hard when using items like Expert Belt, Life Orb, and Assault Vest in conjunction with powerful moves like Armor Cannon, Psychic, and Meteor Beam.
-
Swampert was an all-around solid pick for both offense and utility, thanks to his access to Earthquake, Waterfall, and Stealth Rock. It is a reliable choice for many teams.
-
Swords of Justice were a staple for their high stats, offensive versatility, and ability to hit hard with moves like melee and holy sword.
-
Baxcalibur is a great answer to many threats in the meta, and once it's on with Swords Dance, it can deal massive damage even to targets that don't take super damage from it.
-
Garchomp is Pokemon Legends: ZACurrently the most OP Pokemon is because it has incredible stats, a very strong Mega Evolution, and can be used with a lot of different items to improve its damage or survivability.
The meta has been shaped by these powerful attackers, but with the imminent arrival of limited Legendary Pokemon, the focus will shift from maintaining balance to driving overwhelming power. These will be limited to one per team, but will still be problematic additions to the game in terms of balance. The restricted Pokemon are:
-
Xerneas
-
He howled
-
Zygard
-
Mewtwo
-
Groudon
-
Kyogre
-
Rayquaza
It looks like Pokemon Legends: ZA will rewrite the unwritten rules of Mega Evolution
Thanks to the gameplay changes that Pokemon Legends: ZA introduces to the series formula, the best Mega Evolutions can look completely different.
Limited legends in Pokemon Legends: ZA are officially ruining the game
Why Xerneas is OP in PLZA ranked battles
Xerneas enters the field as a Fairy-type powerhouse with access to Moonblast and Geomancy. Although he may not have an ability like Fairy Aura Pokemon Legends: ZAXerneas still brings an incredible offensive presence. His ability to set up Geomancy, a move that increases both special attack and movement speed, allows him to sweep teams when set up correctly. Xerneas can overwhelm current offensive basics like Swords of Justice with its Fairy-type moves, as well as pets like Garchomp and Baxcalibur, as Moonblast is very effective against Fighting-type and Dragon-types.
Since the current meta relies heavily on strong attackers, Pokemon Legends: ZAXerneas will likely force teams to prepare countermeasures against his potential. Expect to see more Steel and Poison types used as defensive answers, or even more priority users looking to shut it down before it becomes too much of a threat. Still, it has a wide range of motion, including Thunderbolt and even the new TMs Pokemon Legends: ZADLC.
How Mewtwo could reshape PLZA ranked battles
One of the most iconic Pokémon in the series, Mewtwo packs a huge punch with 120 basic special attacks and a versatile move pool, including Psystrike, Shadow Ball, and Calm Mind. From REPTILESMega Mewtwo Y dominated the meta in Season 3, it's likely that the Pokemon will come to the fore again in Season 6.
Why you shouldn't sleep on Zygarde in Pokemon Legends: ZA
In Season 6, the combination of Zygarde's bulk and power will make him a strong defensive option against the likes of Xerneas and Mewtwo. While he may not boast any of the legendary abilities of other games, his sheer stats and impressive move pool give him the flexibility to function as a wall as well as a striker, making him a solid choice for both defensive and offensive lineups. Mega Zygarde can also quickly take out opponents once its Mega form is triggered, as it has an incredible base special attack of 216 and OP moves.
How Groudon and Kyogre can destroy the competition in Pokemon Legends: ZA
With abilities cut from Pokemon Legends: ZAGroudon still brings one of the strongest offensive figures in the game. Precipice Blades, Fire Punch, and Stone Edge provide excellent coverage, and Groudon will certainly remain a dominant physical attacker. His Earth and Fire move pool will allow him to hit Fire, Steel and Rock types incredibly hard. Additionally, Primal Groudon will also be accessible.
Kyogre, without his Primordial Sea ability, still represents one of the most consistent special attackers in the game. With Origin Pulse, Ice Beam, and Thunder, he has great coverage and is able to hit hard against both offensive and defensive teams. Kyogre will take on the role of a bulky water-type attacker, using his special attack to break through walls and fight against fire-types like Groudon. Primal Kyogre will still be the best choice for most teams with very few chips.
Pokemon Legends: ZA Mega Rayquaza is about to break the game
Without abilities, Rayquaza still boasts incredible speed and offensive coverage. Dragon Ascent and Extreme Speed make him a huge threat to anything that doesn't overrun him or pack a priority move. Rayquaza's combination of flying and dragon moves will put a huge pressure on the current meta, where dragon types and flying types are still very relevant. More importantly, Pokemon Legends: ZARayquaza doesn't have a Mega Stone, but he can still Mega Evolve just by having Dragon Ascent as one of his moves.
Perhaps more importantly, this means that anyone can use items while using and fighting Mega Rayquaza. Focus Sash will make ice-type moves unable to one-hit, and the same goes for boosted moves from Xernease, Garchomp, Baxcalibur, and other common meta threats. Its addition may be the moment when the break occurs REPTILES's competitive scene and unfortunately there is no going back.
