2K Game is shutting down on May 19th

In 2023 Visual Concepts developer and publisher 2K The games decided to bring back the classic game type that has been absent for several years, but unfortunately that journey is at an early end, with the said title starting an official hiatus on May 19th. 2K Games is perhaps best known for its sports title, with Visual Concepts being best known for NBA and WWE 2K series, but this was something a little different.

The timing is most likely not a coincidence. Visual Concepts just saw a wave of layoffs that reportedly affected WWE 2K team more than NBA 2K team. That means the layoffs were company-wide. It's not confirmed that this shutdown is related to these layoffs, but it wouldn't be surprising since it was a live open-world service. Furthermore, it could be due to the license expiration between 2K and LEGO, as the shutdown takes place a full three years after the initial release.

Games like Anthem turn off the online servers and they are instantly dead and licensed games like Cars 3: Driven to Win nor receive any warning before it is taken down.

Players have four days to add LEGO 2K Drive to their digital libraries and have a little more than a year left to play with friends online. Even after that, they can still access and play the game offline, even if it is a “compromised” version of the game. That's the demand of the Stop Killing Games movement, and this shutdown shows how such a thing can exist.
