June 21 House of the Dragon is entering its third season, airing eight episodes on HBO and HBO Max. While Season 2 was a mixed bag, the sequel looks set to right the ship by diving headfirst into a full-blown war, with trailers showcasing Westeros' terrifying array of legendary beasts. These creatures would immediately be classified as elder dragons Monster Hunter.
As formidable as Vhagar or Caraxes appear on screen, they don't begin to compare to the massive creatures from another fantasy universe that George RR Martin helped shape: Elden Ring. FromSoftware's dark fantasy materpiece operates on a whole other level of insanity, and that extends to the dragons, giants, and nightmares that roam The Lands Between. let's just say HOTDDragons would mostly play as mini-bosses Elden Ring.
Both A Song of Ice and Fire / House of the Dragon and Elden Ring don't always specify the exact size of the creature, so we'll use approximations in most cases.
The elder dragon Greyoll makes Vhagar look like a child
Greyoll is approximately twice the size of HOTD's largest living dragon
-
The largest LIVING dragon in HOTDVhagar, comes at 90 meters, with a wingspan of 150 meters.
-
The largest LIVING dragon in Elden RingElder Dragon Greyoll, comes in at about 180 meters, with a wingspan of about 260 meters.
Elden Ring does not provide exact measurements of its NPCs and creatures, and some of them may appear smaller than they actually are. The Elder Dragon Greyoll serves as a perfect example, as her scale can be difficult to fully grasp mid-game (especially since her movement causes Elden Ring stutter). However, as shown here in a great video by the witch Zullie, the mother of dragons should be about 180 meters tall, which would make Greyoll twice the size of House of the Dragonthe largest dragon: Vhagar.

The best games that let you hunt dragons
Few gaming moments can compare to coming face to face with mighty dragons, and these titles are some of the best for such thrilling encounters.
Even though Greyoll spends her time grounded and weakened by scarlet rot in the Caelid, her sheer biomass is unmatched by any living fantasy on television. If Vhagar tried to pounce on her, she would look like a child trying to peck at her mother. Greyoll wouldn't even have to move; a single status lowering roar from her massive maw would completely shatter Vhagar's composure and make her settle.
A colossal dragon would swallow Balerion whole
The historic Elden Ring peak is much larger than HOTD
-
The biggest dragon EVER v A Song of Ice and FireBalerion the Black Dread, comes to about 150 meters.
-
The biggest dragon EVER v Elden RingThe Colossal Dragon, comes in at about 390 meters.
wisely Elden Ring and HOTD they chose to limit their greatest dragons to the past rather than the present. According to George RR Martin's original books, Balerion the Black Dread was so monstrous that his jaw could swallow a woolly mammoth whole. A giant Valyrian-born monster ridden by Aegon the Conqueror, his wingspan stretched so far that it would eclipse the sun and drown cities in darkness. He is the ultimate symbol of devastation to the Westerosi.
The colossal dragon in “Shadow of the Erdtree” is roughly 2.5 times the size of Balerion. The colossal dragon is so unimaginably huge that its skull alone is the size of the entire Targaryen castle and it would step on Balerion's skull without even noticing. Elden Ring shows much more of the Colossal Dragon than HOTD it shows Balerion when we're actually going to see his rotting corpse at the Great Altar of the Dragon Communion. As you get closer to it, the beast's absurd size gradually comes into focus, and it's truly a jaw-dropper.

Elden Ring's Agheel is dramatically bulkier than HOTD's legendary karax seem ordinary
Length isn't everything
-
Caraxes size varies by book and show, but is believed to be roughly half the size of Vhagar.
-
Agheel is arguably smaller than Caraxes, but his bulkier frame makes him appear larger.
Even more so than the previous dragons, the sizes of Carax and Agheel are difficult to determine, although both are considerably smaller than the largest living dragons in their respective universes. Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm, is a legendary Westeros beast that served as the demon's mount in A Dance of Dragons.
Famously, Caraxes fought Vhagar to a draw, an event known as the Battle of the Eye of the Gods. This moment did not happen HOTD still.
In terms of length, Caraxes appears to be longer than Flying Dragon Agheel, the first dragon most players encounter Elden Ring. As an early game boss, Agheel can be downright intimidating; however, it is relatively small and bland compared to later dragons. If this rookie dragon fell to Westeros, it would quickly achieve legendary status and become one of the most sought-after weapons of war. Caraxes is a thin, noodle-necked snake built for agility, but Agheel is a wall of muscle and thick armor. Even if Caraxes matches or slightly surpasses him in sheer length, Agheel outguns him by a massive margin.

Smarag may be smaller than Meleys, but only one of them uses magic
Size isn't everything… When magic is involved
-
Meleys, the Red Queen, is the fastest dragon in Westeros.
-
Smarag is probably smaller than Meleys, but is powered by wizard corpses.
Although only about half the length of Vhagar, Princess Alyssa and Rhaenys' Meleys are still one of the most feared dragons in Westeros. Heavy, brutal and fast, the Red Queen essentially functions as an aerial battering ram. She has been able to hold her own against bigger beasts and is consistently one of the highlights HOTD.
Anyway, Smarag isn't as special as a dragon. For the most part, it's an average-sized dragon that really shouldn't stand out from the crowd. However, this do-getter developed a taste for wizards and began devouring them. This dietary habit caused Smarag to mutate and become affected by the glittering stones found in his meals. Instead of standard skin and muscle, his scales mineralized into jagged, spell-resistant Glintstone crystal armor.
Meleys is a powerhouse, but her blunt force attacks can do more self damage than actual damage. Smarag is also a mean dragon who won't hesitate to overwhelm opponents with breath attacks with shine.
