Anime series have evolved a lot over the years and most of them now feature much richer stories with an impressive cast of characters. While the main protagonist group is quite important in the anime, so are the antagonistic groups, most of which drive the story in interesting ways and mostly give the main characters motivation to continue on their own paths of justice. In this regard, Masashi Kishimoto's Akatsuki Naruto the series is one of the best groups of villains in all of anime. That said, the Akatsuki don't stand alone as a well-written group of villains. There are several others that rival it for importance and narrative impact in their respective series.

The Otsutsuki Clan
Akatsuki of Naruto isn't the only exciting group of villains that Masashi Kishimoto has developed. He also created the Otsutsuki clan, which began to form towards the end of the Naruto series. The Otsutsuki were introduced as parasitic aliens that feast on the energy of planets by harvesting chakra fruits on them. This clan has given fans some of the most powerful villains such as Kaguya Otsutsuki, Momoshiki Otsutsuki, Kinshiki Otsutsuki, and recently even Ishiki Otsutsuki.
More information about the Otsutsuki clan has been expanded on in the Boruto series, but they are primarily a creation of Naruto and there is still much more information about them that remains unknown to this day.

This means that the vast majority of Yonka existed for Luffy and the other next generation pirates to destroy.
As seen in Wano, a Yonko has tremendous power that pushes the main character to their limits and forces them to evolve in the midst of battle. Their terror knows no bounds and their power is unprecedented, making them a threat even to the World Government itself.

As the plot moves forward towards the Dark Continent, it stands to reason that they will only become more relevant from here.
