The veteran of the industry suspects that it has been called separate PlayStation handheld computers, it will also have to support cassettes or some other form of physical media for the same reasons, provided that this device sometimes gets on the market.
Shawn Layden, former chairman, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, believes that PlayStation 6 should include a physical drive unit at all costs. During a recent interview, the industry veteran said so much that saw him explain to him why he didn't believe that Sony could still pull the PlayStation Console generation.
The Digital Edition PS5 was the first Sony home console to run without an optical disk. Since then, the company has also introduced the PS5 Pro and the unstoppable variant of the PS5 Slim, which can be equipped with a separately purchased Blu-ray Drive. With regard to these products, some fans and industry observers speculate that Sony can prepare for generation of Di-Digital consoles earlier than later.

Says: PS6 leak can indicate the windows of the console
The well -known hardware leak provides some new information that can indicate the potential release window of Sony's PlayStation 6.
Former CEO Sie Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden disagrees with this forecast when he said so much during a recent interview with the YouTube Kiwi Talk. “I don't think Sony could get away [an all-digital PS6] Now, “the veteran of the industry said. The elaboration of this idea of Layden noted that Sony's home consoles continue to see a lot of use in environments with slow speeds of the Internet or no connectivity at all, whether for technical or security reasons. There are still many consumers from rural players to the user after switching on the military base, who could not permanently enjoy modern PlayStation, if Sony stopped supporting physical media, said former Playstation chief.
Many PS6s would stolen many PlayStation users
Given this situation, the fully unstable PS6 assembly would stolen a significant proportion of PlayStation users, which quotes Layden as the main reason why Sony is unlikely to pull out the generation of the home console so far. Although the former executive director SIE did not require the tenth console outside generation, some other market observers have already done. E.g. Circana analyst Mat Piscatell earlier predicted that the PS7 would be the first Sony digital console.
Rumerored PlayStation Handheld will probably have to support physical media also
Elsewhere, during the Layden interview, he discussed the challenges of the generation of the digital console through the prism of recent reports on the development of the new PlayStation Sand Plan. While the portable form factor would exclude support for Blu-ray discs, that does not mean that it could be completely digital-the same reasons why it would be problematic, Layden explained. As a result, it expects Sony's handkerchief to contain the possibility of physical media, perhaps using switching cartridges, provided the device sometimes materializes. Layden has similar expectations for the Handheld Xbox, which Microsoft has recently confirmed that it is in the prototyping phase, but must still be approved for commercialization.
I don't think Sony can get away [an all-digital PS6] now.
Several Sony executives have previously stated that PS5 has entered the second half of its life cycle since the beginning of 2024. Given these notes and records of the company with the timing of the console, the market is expected to hit the market at the end of 2027 or Q4 2028.
