Fans of The Outer Worlds 2 want more gear that isn't focused on combat

Fashion is extremely important in many RPGs. Sure, I can become a walking tank capable of taking down anything in my path, but if I don't look good while saving the world, it can burn. Fortunately, most RPG developers realize this and pack their games to the brim with stylish outfits that come with various stat bonuses that you can mix and match to truly create the character you want to be. Unfortunately, The Outer Worlds 2 is not one of those RPGs.

It's a game with a lot of choice and a number of different ways to deal with certain situations, but when it comes to the gear you're wearing, you'll have to settle for combat-focused static bonuses regardless of your build. Personally, I feel it's much more restrictive than the previous game, and the wider Outer Worlds community seems to agree.

Fans of The Outer Worlds 2 want more gear that isn't focused on combat

In a recent post on The Outer Worlds subreddit, a user named ChaseBank5 elaborates on this issue, citing the game's lack of any gear that boosts less combat-focused stats like Speech, Sneak, or Science as their “biggest problem” with The Outer Worlds 2 so far. It's also quite popular as several other players have expressed similar complaints in the replies.

Another user named MrDude65 thinks it's such a problem that it makes “wearing any non-armor a waste” and points out how silly it can be for less combat-oriented characters to wear gear that helps them shoot better. MrDude65 then goes on to argue that the problem is so big that it “must be fixed with DLC”.

A user named BawlzyStudios goes a step further when he claims that too much armor is focused on improving your ranged abilities, stating that “I haven't found a lot of armor that actually helps you damage the tank or increase your melee damage output” for people who want to build for melee.

It's pretty much the same story for other fans, with some complaining that they seem to be “using the same gear for a very long time” due to the lack of different stat bonuses, and that the game, which focuses heavily on certain builds, “feels a bit limiting”. Hopefully Obsidian will take the feedback and open things up a bit more if they plan to release DLC for this title like they did with the first.
