So much time has passed since then Animal Crossing: New Horizons received its big 2.0 update, and any minor updates that came out later, just fixing bugs and performance issues, everyone naturally assumed the game's life was over. However, Animal Crossing: New Horizons shocked fans by announcing both a Switch 2 version and a massive 3.0 update out of the blue. While the Switch 2 version of the game features a higher resolution, 12-player multiplayer, Joy-Con mouse controls, and a megaphone item to summon NPCs to the player, it's the 3.0 update that's gotten the most attention.
Focus on Animal Crossing: New HorizonsThe 3.0 update is understandable given everything it adds to the game. The main attraction is a hotel run by the Kapp'n family, which allows players to attract new villagers to their island, who will stay in the rooms of said hotel. Mr. Resetti takes on a bigger role as players can use him to remove flowers and custom designs from specific areas of their island, while a new collaboration with LEGO, Zeldaand Splatoon they are on their way. Slumber Islands are another big addition as players get 3 extra islands to decorate with their friends as they see fit. Yet for all these neat additions, it's a simple quality-of-life mechanic – multi-craft – that really steals the show.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons 'Craft Multiple' Mechanic is 5 years overdue
With every single update Animal Crossing: New Horizonsfans hoped that Nintendo would introduce the ability to create multiple copies of an item. Yet with every patch that was released, this addition was missing, despite being the core of other cozy games like Hello Kitty: Island Adventure, Paleyand many others. The 2.0 update felt like Nintendo's last chance to fulfill this wish, and unfortunately it didn't, seemingly leaving this simple quality-of-life mechanism as a “what if” scenario. Thankfully, Update 3.0 finally addresses this omission, as players will be able to choose the number of each item they wish to craft once the update arrives on January 15, 2026.
While this may sound like such a small quality of life requirement that it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, the reality is that crafting items one at a time was incredibly tedious. Players do a lot of crafting Animal Crossing: New Horizonsand there are some items that players must produce in bulk. The best example is the bait needed for hunting Animal Crossing: New Horizonsas players will need hundreds of pieces to catch each fish. In fact, making the bait piece by piece proved so tedious that a market for the material emerged on the trading platform Nookazon. Because it took so long to collect and craft the bait, players who didn't want to go through the process themselves exchanged high amounts of Bells and Nook Miles tickets for full batches of bait. Fortunately, the days of sore fingers from spamming the craft button will soon be a thing of the past.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons' larger expansions have drawbacks Multi-Craft doesn't
While QoL addons are inherently great for any gamer, the same cannot be said for other types of content. For example, there is Animal Crossing: New Horizons'upcoming hotel. While the idea of a hotel is fun and all, the most dedicated fans of the series will probably feel like they've “been there, done that” when they see the addition. After all, decorating themed rooms that inspire villagers to come and stay is pretty much the same premise as the Happy Home Paradise DLC. For anyone who has put hours into this expansion, one of the main appeals of the 3.0 update is essentially a free version of something they've already paid for.
Slumber Islands are similarly bittersweet. While they are undoubtedly a great feature, many players may view them with a lens of regret. After all, roughly four years passed between update 2.0 and update 3.0. With that in mind, many players want more Animal Crossing they probably bit the bullet and rebooted their islands, erasing their hard work just to have a new place to decorate and new goals to chase. If Slumber Islands had been added a few years ago, these unfortunate players wouldn't be in such a devastating position. To be clear, both Slumber Islands and Hotel are exciting additions, as the former is a way to finally design islands with friends, and the latter is a good alternative for those who didn't get Happy Home Paradise. That said, multi-craft takes the cake as the real star of this update, as there's no complaining about a feature that fans have wanted since the game debuted.
