The most iconic Star Wars twist is undoubtedly Darth Vader revealing himself as Luke Skywalker's father, a pop culture moment that has resonated across generations, but the final act of Knights of the Old Republic has its own bombshell that's definitely coming.
Spoilers for Knights of the Old Republic.
Towards the end of the game it became clear You they were Darth Revan all along. After being defeated at the hands of a Jedi, your mind was erased by the Council, who hoped that your buried memories could be used to uncover Malek's secrets.
All the while we were playing as a Sith Lord throwing the galaxy into turmoil while our trusted companion Bastila and the many Jedi we interacted with on our quest to stop Malek kept us in the dark about our true identities.
Even the voice behind Bastila – Jennifer Hale herself – was surprised by the revelation. “I didn't see that twist coming,” she said in an interview with Buzzfeed. “Knights of the Old Republic really showed me the level of writing, storytelling, and surprise that was possible in games. It was so adventurous, forward-thinking, and incredible.”
“I was completely shocked,” Hale continued. “I remember being blown away by this game so many times because I hadn't seen it beforehand.
Even Jennifer Hale wasn't told the story before taping. Instead, just like we experienced Knights of the Old Republic, it unfolded bit by bit in the cabin. “I discovered the story as I recorded it,” Hale laughed. “I really had to work hard to get over it own experience what I read and just jump in and be in the moment.”
It's a landmark in Star Wars history, cementing Darth Revan as a fan-favorite Sith Lord and earning Knights of the Old Republic a well-deserved place in the annals of franchise history. And now that we play it, it will be fun to know that behind the show, as we finally uncover the truth, Bastila is just as clueless as we are.
