Nintendo has been accused of using Prowler's Spider-Verse theme in Mario Galaxy

We finally know for sure that Bowser Jr. will be in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and that he apparently has a pretty big role. What Nintendo probably didn't expect after the Bowser Jr. reveal was the Prowler comparisons, which range from fans thinking it's a neat tribute to some suggesting Sony's legal team might want to intervene.

Our first look at Bowser Jr. of the Galaxy Movie involved an antagonist attacking Mario and Luigi as they attempt to save their young father. This quick clip included Bowser Jr.'s transformation. to Wonder Bowser Jr, an unexpected tip of the hat to Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Further proof that even though the movie is called Galaxy, it will contain more than just Galaxy references.

We were also shown Mario and Luigi racing towards the inverted pyramid from Super Mario Odyssey.

The sound effect sounds an awful lot like Prowler's Spider-Verse theme

Even more unexpected was the sound we heard when Bowser Jr. he took out his mace. If you're a fan of the Spider-Verse movies and still haven't been in awe of how Bowser Jr. decked out on the big screen in his Wonder gear, you may have noticed that the theme playing at that exact moment in the trailer sounded a lot like the one that played when the Prowler was on screen in Into the Spider-Verse.

Whether you thought that at this point or you just replayed the trailer and are now thinking that, you're not alone. Daniel Pemberton, composer of the Elephant Prowler theme used in Into the Spider-Verse, also noticed this. Pemberton responded to a fan who shared the clip, asking why it sounded familiar. Pemberton replied, “Yeah, I recognize that sound.”

In case people weren't sure what Pemberton was all about, or for those unfamiliar with his work, the composer re-shared a clip from 2018 showing how he created the sounds that have become synonymous with Prowler's appearances in Into the Spider-Verse. So synonymous that seven years after the film's release, many people heard the sound in the Galaxy Movie trailer and immediately made the Spider-Verse connection.

A select few also mention Bowser Jr's “new” design, saying it also mimics Prowler. What these people may not realize is that the design is based on Wonder Bowser Jr.

When I listened to them both back to back repeatedly, they sound very, very similar. Almost identical, some might argue. Although Sony is working on a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, there is no connection. The creators of the Mario movies have nothing in common with the creators of the Spider-Verse trilogy. Maybe it's just a coincidence that the themes sound so similar, or maybe there's more to it.
