It's been more than a year since Krafton acquired Tango Gameworks, but the finer details of the deal are still being worked out. You still encounter Bethesda splash screens when playing Hi-Fi Rush. An upcoming update is about to change everything.
Krafton released a statement this morning (thanks, Gematsu) confirming that Hi-Fi Rush's publishing rights have finally been transferred. Hi-Fi Rush will remain playable and available wherever you can play and buy it right now, but Krafton will have to issue an update to reflect that they are now the publisher of the game, not Bethesda.
By the time you read this, the publishing rights to Hi-Fi Rush will have officially been transferred from Bethesda to Tango's new owners, Krafton. This change will be reflected on various pages of the Hi-Fi Rush store. The bigger change that will need to be implemented to reflect this is one that will remove the Bethesda name from the game itself and replace it with the Krafton name, which is why Hi-Fi Rush needs an update.
The Hi-Fi Rush publishing rights update will be released in December
This step has not yet taken place, but is scheduled for December 4, 2025. After applying this update, all mentions of Bethesda in the game will be replaced with Krafton. Krafton's statement notes that there should be no issues with the game and it should play as normal after applying the update, aside from potential error messages when trying to connect to Bethesda.net because that connection has been disabled.
Everything else should remain the same. This includes save states regardless of which platform you play on and overall access to the game. Perhaps the best news of all is the confirmation that those who played Hi-Fi Rush via Xbox Game Pass will be able to continue playing after applying the Krafton update.
Hi-Fi Rush was the first day of the Game Pass release as it was published by Bethesda. There was a very real chance that the game could leave Game Pass once it officially became a Krafton property. There's no guarantee it won't happen eventually, but for now, even after the Krafton update, Hi-Fi Rush will remain on Game Pass.
While it was exciting when Krafton stepped in to save Tango Gameworks after Xbox released it, there's still no guarantee we'll ever get more from Hi-Fi Rush. This week has been particularly worrisome for his potential future. While the disappearance of its soundtrack from all major streaming platforms is likely related to this official publisher switch, it was followed by news that Krafton is offering employees voluntary resignations as it plans to become an AI-first company.
