Nintendo has released a new system update for the Switch 2bringing the console to version 21.0.1. Additionally, the original Switch received a new update on November 24th. While no new features have been added, Nintendo continues to improve stability for users on the Switch 2 and Switch.
2025 was a big year for Nintendo. The company released the Switch 2 on June 5, introducing a new hybrid console for gamers to try out. Expectations were understandably high for the system, following the massive success of the Switch in 2017. While Nintendo faced various challenges with the launch of the Switch 2, including price controversies, it has sold millions of units so far. As the console's install base grows, new updates are released to improve the user experience.
All the big upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games released in 2025 and beyond
Fire Emblem, Mario, Animal Crossing and Elden Ring are just some of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games we can't wait to play.
The last of these updates came on November 24th and brought the system up to version 21.0.1. In addition to the usual general stability improvements, the patch notes revealed a few specific fixes that will make life easier for users. First, the update addressed an issue that caused the switch to receive error codes when attempting to transfer to switch 2 via local communications. Nintendo also fixed an issue that prevented some Bluetooth wireless controllers and audio devices from connecting to the system after using sleep mode or turning off airplane mode.
It is worth noting that the original Switch also received the update. Unsurprisingly, it addresses the aforementioned system transfer bug and includes general stability improvements. As with past system updates, it's unclear exactly how these general improvements improve the user experience. Switch and Switch 2 users should have no trouble moving their systems to the latest version, as Nintendo notes that it should be automatically downloaded. However, users can check the version status in the System Settings menu.
This system update comes at a busy time for Nintendo. Kirby Air Riders was released as a Switch 2 exclusive on November 20 and features a new racing game from Masahiro Sakurai in the spirit of the original Kirby Air Ride for GameCube. further Metroid Prime 4: Beyond starts on December 4th. The game features the latest adventure of Samus Aran and comes after a long development cycle.
Although neither game is likely to be as big a system seller as Mario Kart Worldit will be interesting to see what impact they have on sales of the Switch 2. With these and other games coming to Nintendo systems soon, time will tell if Nintendo releases any more system updates before the end of the year.
