The nominees have been chosen and the wait is almost over as The Game Awards 2025 promises to be another year of showcasing some of the best gaming titles of the year. All looming questions will be answered and players will be on the receiving end of a series of big reveals that will really add to the excitement of the titles coming out in 2026 and beyond.

With The Game Awards nominations now set, we asked the Game Rant community for their thoughts on one of the many hotly contested categories. Here's how the Multiplayer GOTY nominees are according to GR readers.

It may have the advantage of being a recent release, but its popularity cannot be denied ARC Raiderswhich comfortably took the top spot as the community favorite for best multiplayer game. The second most popular responses were for Battlefield 6which was a real return to form and for games that were not nominated. It's been such a strong showing for multiplayer this year that other great titles like it REPO, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Borderlands 4, and even Marvel Rivals (which would have been eligible this year due to its release last December) missed out on a top five spot.
Perhaps one of the biggest surprises in this year's nominations for The Game Awards was Split Fiction no Game of the Year nominations. He was a very early race favorite and seems to have fallen victim to a lot of really strong play. It also seems unlikely to win multiplayer game of the year if the GR community is correct. The same could be said about Elden Ring Nightreigna game that had a lot of catching up to do given its tie to the Game of the Year winner himself, who also doesn't seem favored to win the category.
One of the surprises this year was an indie sensation TOP. Since its release in the middle of the year, the game has been received with an overwhelming amount of positive feedback as a fun, whimsical and chaotic adventure that players can enjoy with friends. It's definitely a game that doesn't take itself seriously, which has been something the gaming community has clearly embraced, and its placement against some of the AAA giants is all the more impressive.
There's no doubt that this year was a great year for games, but 2025 brought top-notch co-op experiences in particular.
