Baldur's Gate 3 briefly became The Game Awards' top-grossing game of all time

Last night, Baldur's Gate 3 picked up its eighth win at The Game Awards. The critically acclaimed RPG won six awards in 2023 and followed it up with a seventh last year, tying The Last of Us Part 2 as the most successful game at the ceremony, with Naughty Dog winning the title seven times in 2020.

Baldur's Gate 3 took Baldur's Gate 3 ahead of The Last of Us Part 2 at The Game Awards last night, but unfortunately for Team Larian, the accolade didn't last long.

Until last night, Baldur's Gate 3 and The Last of Us Part 2 were tied for seven awards.

In 2020, The Last of Us won Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Story, Best Sound Design, Best Performance, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Action/Adventure Game. In 2023, Baldur's Gate won Game of the Year, Best Performance, Best Community Support, Best Role-Playing Game, Best Multiplayer and Player Vote, and followed that up last year by retaining the Best Community Support crown.

When Baldur's Gate 3 won its third consecutive award for Best Community Support during last night's show, the game became the clear winner at The Game Awards, but it didn't last long with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 breathing down its neck.

Every winner at The Game Awards 2025

If you missed the show or just need a recap, we've rounded up all the Game Awards 2025 winners right here, including some helpful facts.

By the time Baldur's Gate 3 won its eighth award, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 already had five (Best Score and Music, Best Debut Independent Game, Best Independent Game, Best Art Direction and Best Performance for Jennifer English) and was still nominated in five more categories.

It seemed inevitable, winning four of its remaining five (Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Role-playing Game, and Best Story), losing only the Players' Voice Award to Wuthering Waves and a quick look at Baldur's Gate 3.

Less than 45 minutes passed between Baldur's Gate 3 taking the “Most Successful Game of All Time” crown and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and another 17 minutes between Clair Obscur's eighth and ninth wins of the night. The two gongs cemented the French RPG as the top-grossing game in a single night and the top-grossing game of all time at The Game Awards.

It's hard to argue that any game deserves this feat more.
