Fate of the Old Republic Release date is far, far away

While many fans were excited when they found out Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Journalist Jason Schreier shared that the title is unlikely to be released anytime soon. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic aims to be a spiritual successor to the original Knights of the Old Republicwhich was developed by BioWare and debuted in 2003.

While players haven't been given much information about the upcoming title, it seems like the developers have shared some notable goals. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will be a single player narrative action RPG where decisions really matter. As with others Star Wars games that emphasize choice, it seems that players will be able to shape their character's path. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is probably a few years away

In a recent post on Bluesky, journalist Jason Schreier said he recently announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was the “biggest surprise” of The Game Awards. The title is led by Casey Hudson, who directed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect trilogy and Anthem. While many of these details were enough to get players excited, Jason Schreier was quick to offer his knowledge and perspective on the announcement as he mentioned that the studio developing the game, Arcanaut Studios, was founded in 2025. This means that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic it hasn't even been in development for a full year yet. He claimed that in terms of determining a release date, 2030 would be his “optimistic” estimate. He then offered a humorous comment suggesting that it could end up being a PlayStation 7 title.

Many players were quick to express their disappointment in the comments, as they had hoped the title was further along in development. One person said in the comments that they find these announcements “not news,” especially since they don't come with any look at the game or even an official release window. Responding to the person, Jason Schreier agreed, adding that “half the time they get canceled.” He pointed to the Monolith being canceled as proof Wonder Woman the game was announced in a similar way during The Game Awards in 2021. Although there is no way to know what will happen in the future, many gamers hope that this title will cross the finish line, even if they will have to wait for some time.
