Nintendo's holiday sale hits are dominated by deep discounts on third-party titles
Although Nintendo is known for its first-party classics, several third-party games have been heavily discounted on the eShop. The most eye-catching discount currently on the Nintendo eShop is for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Editioncurrently at $17.99 for the Switch 2. The 75% discount from the usual $69.99 price tag is the game's deepest discount to date, even lower than the prices previously listed for Cyberpunk 2077 on PC stores such as Steam and GOG Galaxy. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition comes with both the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion. Although Cyberpunk 2077 is a graphically demanding game, the Switch 2 version uses Nvidia DLSS upscaling technology to render the game at a higher frame rate without sacrificing too much graphical quality in TV mode or Handheld mode.
Other third-party games available at a discount include Ball x Pit, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, No Man's Skyand Hades 2. For games available on both the original Switch and Switch 2, the discounts are the same on both consoles. However, shoppers should double-check the version of the game they wish to purchase and check which ones have the Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade option available through the eShop. When it comes to discounts on first-party games, some of Nintendo's previous Black Friday deals are back for another round. Super Mario Odyssey and New Super Mario Bros. At Deluxe they are now at $39.99 while The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Fire Emblem Engageand Princess Peach: Showtimee are available for $41.99 each.
Now is the best time to switch to Switch 2
Nintendo's Hits For The Holidays event comes at a good time for gamers looking to save money where possible. As the cost of games, consoles, and accessories continue to rise through 2025, the problem has since been compounded by the ongoing RAM shortage crisis. Additionally, an internal report from GameStop stated that the Switch 2 Mario Kart World Nintendo has stopped shipping the bundle and the next restock would only be for the Switch 2 base console. On December 22, Nintendo confirmed on social media that the Switch 2 Mario Kart World the bundle was still available in limited quantities at retailers such as Best Buy and Walmart. So users who want to get Switch 2 Mario Kart World package for Christmas they still have a small chance to get it before they sell out.
Between the ongoing Nintendo eShop sale and the plethora of Switch 2 titles set to arrive in January, gamers will have no shortage of options to add to their Switch and Switch 2 game collections. It remains to be seen what surprises Nintendo has in store for early 2026.
