The Game Awards are here and gone for another year, bringing with them plenty of big announcements about exciting titles coming next year and beyond. It was a pretty busy show this year too, bringing us not only two new Tomb Raider game announcements, but also a sequel for Control, a new Divinity game, a new Star Wars RPG from Casey Hudson, a new Mega Man, just to name a few.
With so many big announcements, it can be pretty fun to see which games are the most anticipated, especially when there are so many heavy hitters at the show. Luckily, we can take a look at Steam's Most Wanted section to see how much interest certain games are getting, and as Reddit user WhyPlaySerious has pointed out, the game that's generated the most interest this year is actually quite surprising.
Total War: Warhammer 40K is The Game Awards' Most Wanted Game
Of all the new games announced at The Game Awards this year, it was actually Total War: Warhammer 40,000 that amassed the most wishlists, currently sitting at #25 in the Most Wished For section on Steam. That's pretty surprising considering the number of heavy hitters at the show, though I guess it makes sense given Total War's overall popularity on Steam. It's hard to imagine, but it's a franchise that makes Sega a lot of money, alongside the likes of Sonic and Persona.
Interestingly, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Control Resonant are in second and third place, while another surprisingly popular title is Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve in fourth place and No Law in fifth. If you're wondering where Divinity and the new Star Wars RPG are, that's because they don't actually have Steam pages, so they can't be wishlisted.
According to Geoff Keighley's own poll, many people didn't like The Game Awards 2025
Maybe it was the final world premiere.
One of the most troubling aspects of this list is the position of Highguard, the new game from the former developers of Titanfall, which was pretty brutally bullied after its big reveal at The Game Awards. Highguard is the eleventh highest wishlist game and is currently ranked #294 overall. That's not great for a free-to-play that will most likely live or die on its player base.
Of course, it's worth noting that wishlists aren't a perfect barometer of how well a game will do, but it's a pretty good gauge of public interest at the moment. From what we can gather with these wishlists, Total War will sell gangbusters and Highguard will be dead on arrival. We'll have to wait and see if that ends up being a reality.
