Assassin's Creed Hexe brings Far Cry and AC Origins writers on board

Longtime Ubisoft writer Christopher Grilli, whose credits include Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, Far Cry 5 and New Dawn, has returned to the company after two years as lead writer on Assassin's Creed Hex, which is expected to be the next installment in the series.

“I'm excited to share that I'm starting a new position at Ubisoft Montreal,” he said (via Insider Gaming). “Incredibly grateful to be a part of this team and project!”

What we know about Hex so far

Assassin's Creed Hexe was revealed to the world in 2022 with a short 30-second teaser, but we haven't seen anything from the game since then. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier claimed it would be set in 16th century Europe at the height of the witch trials, while Insider Gaming claimed it would be a more linear experience than recent RPG titles.

Ubisoft's Marc-Alexis Cote hinted at this, saying that this new flagship would be “a very different type of Assassin's Creed game” and that “not everything has to be a 150-hour RPG”.

Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 2 creative director Clint Hocking will also serve as creative director for Hex.

Hexe will reportedly follow a new protagonist named Elsa, who boasts supernatural powers such as the ability to possess a cat to distract enemies. Given the witchy nature of the title, it seems that Ubisoft is putting us at the forefront of trials, and according to this idea, the game will reportedly build on the fear system from Assassin's Creed Syndicate's Jack the Ripper DLC.

There's no word yet on a release date, but it's believed that Hex could launch sometime in 2027, although Insider Gaming editor-in-chief Tom Henderson claimed that we should expect a Black Flag remake and multiplayer spin-off Invictus first.
