Marathon update fixes Destiny 2 installation issue
Earlier this week, Bungie revealed a new trailer with MarathonOfficial release date and special editions available for purchase. As part of the announcement, Bungie also confirmed that Marathon is now available for pre-order, although for fans on Steam, the pre-order process had the odd side effect of Destiny 2 automatically starting to install. Although Fate 2 is another Bungie game, both are their own standalone games, so the fact that it started installing without any warning left most people scratching their heads.
While conspiracy theorists and those looking for a laugh called the incident Bungie's way of getting more people to play the game Fate 2 due to its declining population or speculation that this was intentional, Bungie quickly clarified that this was in fact a bug. The official Marathon Dev Team social media account posted a message that the studio has released a patch that fixed the installation issue, so those who pre-order shouldn't have this happen again. In addition, the update also fixed a bug that occurred to Collector's Edition owners who tried to activate their code on Steam.
After Marathon's launch delay and controversy, the game seems to be gaining momentum as a new March release date approaches. The re-reveal showed how the game has evolved from what fans previously played in 2025, with more content, highly requested features like contactless chat, as well as better visuals and lighting. Marathon also features a talented voice cast and big names such as Roger Clark, Dave Fennoy, Jennifer English, Ben Starr and many more. For those still on the fence, Bungie has also promised an Open Preview the weekend before March 5, allowing anyone to try out the game before committing to its price tag.
While Marathon appears on the rise, fans seem to have real concerns Fate 2immediate future. While the Renegades expansion has been well-received among players, questions remain about what's next, as reports have indicated Fate 2The game's next big update has been delayed to make room Marathon.
