The two biggest gaming releases of 2026 are forcing me to confront my gaming blind spots

Probably the two biggest games of 2026 Grand Theft Auto 6 and Fable reboot, both are due out at the end of the year. As someone who has never picked up a game in any of these series heading into 2026, I found it hard to get excited about their new entries. Whereas I could probably jump into it Grand Theft Auto 6 or Fable without having played any of the previous posts, I figured this was my perfect chance to finally experience two classic franchises that have been pretty much a blind spot for me and my gaming career.

I grew up mainly a Nintendo kid, with the main consoles I played on being the GameCube, Wii, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. I also had access to the family PC, but it was mainly used for games such as Tony Hawk's pro skater and finally, Minecraft and Team Strength 2. Without access to an Xbox or PlayStation, my childhood never included some older ones Fable and GTA games, so I never developed the same affinity for these two series as others.

With GTA 6 and the release of Fable in 2026, it's finally time for me to try two series

I don't usually do marathon games; I usually need some sort of palate cleansing between games in the same series. However, given the legendary status Grand Theft Auto series and hype behind GTA 6I'm ready to try a marathon of the series and hope I don't burn out before I finish them. There's also the matter of the other releases for 2026 that I'm excited about in the meantime, which I'll have to make time for as well, and I already know I'll probably be drawn into another Marathon when a new Bungie game comes out like I did ARC Raiders over the past few months.

I already started marathoning the Grand Theft Auto series before GTA 6

In 2026, I already made it my New Year's resolution to play them all Grand Theft Auto games before GTA 6 edition. Provided GTA 6 isn't holding back again and is still on track for a November release, which should give me plenty of time to finish games if I stick to a pace of around 1 game per month. GTA 5 it might be a bit more of an investment considering how much content is available for this game, so it might take me longer than a month in that case.

My plan to beat all GTA games before GTA 6

  • GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas over Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition – 60 hours
  • GTA 4 and Episodes from Liberty City – 45 hours
  • GTA 5 32 hours
  • GTA 1 and GTA 2 – 26 hours
  • Total – 163 hours

I'm starting mine GTA trip with the trilogy about GTA 3, Vice Cityand San Andreas that I play through Definitive edition. I know this collection was criticized for its poor performance after release, but so far it looks like it will run well in 2026 after a series of updates. Next I plan to solve GTA 4 along with the Episodes from Liberty City DLC packs and then follow them GTA 5. Finally there are the original two GTA games that are considered the black sheep of the series, so I plan to try both, but I'm not sure if I'll finish them both, since they don't seem to be essential to experiencing the entire series.

There were rumors about GTA 4 a remake is coming, so I'm delaying the launch GTA 4 for a while to see if this release comes to fruition.

I have completed GTA 3 so far

I can check now Grand Theft Auto 3 off my list because i beat the game recently. Overall, I think the game doesn't hold up very well in 2026, with some clunky controls and minimal character development with no voice for silent protagonist Claude. However, I loved the humor and world building found throughout the game, especially through GTA 3's radio station, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the series has evolved since this post.

Marathoning the Fable Games should be easier than GTA

Fable Property Real Estate even better

Compared to massive series like Grand Theft Automarathon running Fable should be much easier. Balancing one GTA game per month, more or less, s Fable the series shouldn't be too difficult since there are only 3 main ones Fable games while GTA has 7, not including spin-offs. Fable it also packages a lot of the series' content into re-releases, such as Fabulous anniversary the edition it contains The lost chapters content, making my franchise marathon pretty simple.

How long does it take to complete all Fable games

Total time to complete each Fable the game is only a fraction of the time needed to beat it GTA series. Fortunately, it shouldn't be such a big investment to marathon two franchises at the same time. With gameplay Fable be an action rpg compared to GTAaction adventure crime simulator, Fable it has the potential to be more effective if I stick to the main task while playing the game GTA the game can be extended if I have trouble completing certain missions (which I already have).

For me, 2026 will be a battle between two very different series

The main character and friend of the fairy tale

My Year 2026 is shaping up to be a tale of two franchises as I attempt to defeat all the major GTA and Fable games for the first time before the release of the latest entries of the two series. There isn't a ton of crossover between them Grand Theft Auto and Fable gameplay wise, so hopefully I'll enjoy that variation as I go through the series. The only major similarity these franchises share is their distinct sense of humor, which I'm very much looking forward to as 2026 begins. GTA and Fable marathons.
