The analyst claimed that the PlayStation 6 release will likely be delayed “longer than many expected,” but most gamers seem to agree that it's absolutely necessary for the PS5.
You may find it hard to believe, but we're approaching six years since the PlayStation 5 was first released at the end of 2020. As great as the PS5 is, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks this generation really lived up to the hype, especially since you can count the number of PS5 exclusives on two hands.
It has been reported for some time now that PlayStation is likely to extend the life cycle of the PS5 as it is usually already preparing to enter the next generation. The news was recently doubled down on by an analyst who says the PS6 release is likely to be delayed “longer than many expected”.
Don't expect PS6 to come out anytime soon, analyst predicts
At least we can all agree that's not a bad thing
As VGC reports, David Gibson, senior analyst at MST Financial, recently shared a report on Sony Group's current performance and what could be next for the company. There's a lot to know about how Sony is doing, but one of the big takeaways from the report is that Gibson doesn't think the PS6 is coming anytime soon.
PlayStation Needed Stellar Blade More than Stellar Blade Needed PlayStation
Shift Up is seemingly leaving the PlayStation exclusive for Stellar Blade 2.
Gibson says that “Sony expects to extend the life cycle of the PS5” and that “the release of the PS6 is likely to be delayed longer than many expected,” suggesting that we won't see it for several more years. While Sony has hinted at the next-gen PlayStation in the past, Gibson thinks it will be a while before it actually comes out.
While you might think that this statement annoys PlayStation fans eager to see what the next generation will bring, it seems that everyone actually agrees that it's absolutely necessary. Twitter user mrpyo1 said that not many people will be upset if the PS6 comes out closer to 2030 because the PS5 needs time to “shine” and the generation feels like it's “just started”.
Replies to IGN's tweet are full of similar sentiments, with many agreeing that the PS5 still has “a lot of potential” and doesn't need a successor to be rushed. One fan even points out that there's no real rush since “Xbox threw in the towel.” PlayStation has probably already decided on the release of the PS6, but it looks like no one is too concerned if it takes a little longer.
