Finnegan Fox, conservationist icon and animal voice actor Overwatch 2died, as confirmed by the YouTube channel of the charity SaveAFox Rescue, which he represented for several years. SaveAFox representatives and fans around the world are mourning the loss of Finnegan, whose vocal performance in Overwatch 2 was only a small part of his inheritance.
Almost a full year before its release, Overwatch 2 announced a new support character named Kiriko, a fox-eared ninja known for throwing protective suzu to heal her allies and kunai to hurt her enemies. Her abilities and stylish appearance quickly garnered much praise, as did her kitsune spirit, an ethereal fox voiced by the late Finnegan that was the icing on the cake for many players.

Finnegan Fox of Overwatch 2 Fame has died
Now SaveAFox has confirmed that Finnegan died about two months ago. After being rescued in 2015, he immediately bonded with his new breeder, Mikayla Raines, who four years later founded SaveAFox, a charity dedicated to rescuing foxes from fur farms. The charity has raised awareness for animal welfare by gaining popularity on platforms like YouTube and TikTok, and while their videos have featured several different foxes, the humorous disagreements between Raines and the whiny, mischievous and sometimes spoiled Finnegan have helped SaveAFox's channels amass a combined 5.6 million followers in just under seven years on those two platforms alone. “Honestly, he's largely responsible for the fact that we've been able to save as many animals as we have,” Ethan Frankamp, the current head of SaveAFox, said in a 41-minute tribute to Finnegan on the charity's YouTube channel.
The famous video game pet was preceded in death by his handler and human best friend, Raines, who died at the age of 30 in June 2025. News of the world's most famous fox's passing was shared by Raines' widower, Frankamp, on several social media platforms. Frankamp apologized for delaying the news of Finnegan's death by almost two months, explaining that he was experiencing a lot of personal difficulties coping with the loss of his young wife and his beloved pet in such a short period of time. In a Facebook post, he offered to reimburse all sponsors who made financial donations directed at Finnegan over the past two months, but also asked for help to reimburse the charity for Finnegan's end-of-life medical expenses, which raised more than $6,100 in donations in less than 21 hours.
Fans are aware of Finnegan Fox's involvement in Overwatch 2 and those who got to know him through his videos pay tribute to him online in many different ways. Many of the game's fan accounts on social media have shared side-by-side images of the kitsune spirit and the handsome fox that provided his memorable voice, along with images and videos showcasing some of his funniest or most adorable antics captured on film over the years. These include several instances of him snuggling and playing with Raines, as well as sharing a tasty fish with a small fox cub, and of course making a wide variety of happy, whiny noises.
Those who would like to donate to SaveAFox in memory of Finnegan can do so via the charity's official website. Plus, Infuse Studio's cozy action-adventure animal game series Spirit of the Northin which players take on the role of an Icelandic red fox, has partnered with SaveAFox to bring three of its most popular foxes, including Finnegan, to the game as skins. 100 percent of the purchase price of these skins is donated directly to SaveAFox.
