Characters who were kicked out of the Marines

Marines in One piece projecting an image of absolute authority, harsh discipline, and fanatical loyalty to the five elders above all. Members like Admirals Kizaru and Akainu embody these ideals of loyalty and commitment, but others do not. Some members of the military arm of the World Government were fired, sometimes because they wished to withdraw from this brutal organization. Only a minority of famous marines have left the ranks, which makes them stand out that much more.

Oddly enough, not everyone who got kicked out of the Marines ended up switching sides to become a hero. A few did, with some Marines losing faith in the World Government Navy, while others merely traded one type of villainy for another. There are not many ex-sailors and ex-officers One pieceyet some of them are among the most compelling and memorable characters in the entire series.

Members of the One Piece Slam Hat Grand Fleet

8 One Piece Figures to Join the Grand Straw Hat Fleet

The Great Straw Hat Fleet needs powerful new members. These One Piece characters could eventually join the group.

Monkey D. Dragon broke up with the Marines after God Valley

Dragon's Rescue of Shamrock and Shanks changed his view of the world

Luffy's own father, Monkey D. Dragon, is one of the most famous and important cases of someone being kicked out of the Marines. Interestingly, his case is also one of the most subtle in a way, as his own father, Garp, helped ensure Dragon's peaceful exit from the Marines. Dragon “repaid” his father by becoming the head of the Revolutionary Army, an entity dedicated to fighting the Marines Dragon once served.

Dragon once believed in the cause, but how One pieceRecent manga chapters have shown that everything changed once Dragon witnessed the travesty that was the God Valley incident. Unable to bear the thought of hunting innocent people for sport, the dragon listened when a certain mother asked him to save her young son, Teech. Dragon was also the one who helped save the twins, Shamrock and Shanks.

Jaguar D. Saul was a giant marine who saved Robin's life

A couple of bearers of the fabled Will of D. ended up paradoxically donning the uniform of the Marines. Anyone with the Will of D. is a natural enemy of the “gods” who oversee the world government and navy, so of course characters like Saul and Dragon were dug up. In Jaguar D. Saul's case, he left the Navy to save people not in God Valley, but in Ohara during the devastating Buster Call.

One Piece New Haki Users Elbaf

6 one-piece figures to unlock Haki in Elbaf

Elbaf will be the main arc for these characters. Soon they will unlock Haki in One Piece.

Young Nico Robin owed her life to the giant Saul as he protected her from harm, and it was a miracle that Saul survived his own selfless actions. After that, they parted ways for many years, but now Saul is home on Elbaph, where he and Robin have enjoyed a reunion, happy tears and all. Saul is also one of the few giants known to have the Will of D., and Imu in particular declared all of Elbaph to be D. No wonder Saul turned against the Navy and was kicked out to save innocent lives like Robin's.

Admiral Aokiji quit after fighting Akainu at Punk Hazard

Aokiji has sunk to the level of the Blackbeard Pirates

Once upon a time it seemed like the mighty admirals would be the most loyal members of the navy, but now the original three admirals are 2 for 3. Kizaru and Akainu still obey Ima at all costs, but former admiral Aokiji/Kuzan is a different story. After the Battle of Marineford, he feuded with Akainu and narrowly lost to him in Punk Hazard. There is no doubt that Aokiji was furious and under a lot of stress when his career ended when he narrowly escaped with his life.

In one of One pieceThe ultimate irony, Aokiji has teamed up with the Blackbeard Pirates, who are about as far from the Marines as he can get. The Blackbeard Pirates are rowdy, unruly villains who fiercely oppose the World Government, just as Captain Blackbeard and Rocks do. D. Xebec once did. There's also no hint that Aokiji is doing this to secretly betray the Blackbeard Pirates from within, so he's obviously serious. There's just no way the Marines are going to take Aokiji back now, regardless of his Ice Logie powers.

Captain Morgan was hated by his own men

One of the first marines to ever appear was Captain Morgan in the Romance Dawn Saga. He was an early and minor example of the Navy's endless cruelty and abuse, even if it cost him in the end. Morgan was the tyrant of the city of Shells, and this made him and the free-spirited Luffy bitter enemies. As soon as Morgan fell, his men cheered, a clear sign of how unpopular he was.

Unlike some former Marines who have paid for their actions, Morgan has gotten away with his misdeeds. Granted, he was arrested and supposed to be brought to trial, but he escaped while Garp was dozing off and has been free ever since. One piece he often finds use for loose ends, but given Morgan's minimal power and influence, he'll likely stay off-screen until the very end.

Sentomaru shifted his allegiance to the Straw Hats

Sentomaru became one of Luffy's best allies on Egghead Island

Sentomaru was introduced as the master of the Pacifists, which in a sense made him an enemy of the Straw Hats. He was to play a minor role in the Battle of Marineford, but One piece fans now care much more about Sentomaru as a hero. Sentomaru appeared in the Egghead Island Arc as a new ally of the Straw Hats and turned to the Marines to stand up for what was right.

One Piece: 6 Characters With Highest Win Rate, Ranked

You can bet that these One Piece characters will always be on top.

Sentomaru played tug of war with the marines to control the army of pacifists found on Egghead, though there was only so much he could do in that role. Sentomaru escaped the chaotic battle for Egghead despite the presence of powers like the Five Elders, but was lucky to make it out alive. As someone who has cut ties with the increasingly ruthless marines, Sentomaru must constantly watch his back.

Caesar Clown fell into punk danger with his experiments

Caesar was too cruel even for a world government

It says something really dark about Caesar Clown's personality that he was eventually kicked out of the Marines because of his unethical ways. As One piece fans saw the Navy and the Five Elders would condone or even encourage all kinds of abuse, like Saturn's harsh deal with Bartholomew Kuma, but Caesar found a way to be too extreme for even that.

Caesar Clown went rogue as someone who refused to end his blatantly unethical and cruel experiments on Punk Hazard. However, even after cutting off ties with the Marines, Caesar had no shortage of allies or test subjects, ensuring that he remained a serious threat to the Straw Hats, Trafalgar Law, and Smoker when they all arrived at Caesar's front door.

Dr. Vegapunk joined Luffy's side to resist the evil ways of the Elder Five

Dr. Vegapunk gave his life to defy the Navy and World Government

Dr. Vegapunk, like Sentomaru and Will of D. bearers, was kicked out of the Navy hierarchy for positive and heroic reasons. He may be a rogue scientist like Caesar Clown, but otherwise the two couldn't be more different. Dr. Vegapunk actually has a conscience, which was why he protested more and more when Jaygarcia Saturn made that nefarious deal with Kuma and Bonney. Dr. Vegapunk was totally on Kuma's side and now he's on Luffy's side as well.

Dr. Vegapunk gladly betrayed the Navy and Marines to protect the world from Imu's wrath. Risking and ultimately losing his life in this endeavor, he spread his recorded message to the world about the impending flood. Dr. Vegapunk may be gone now, but he didn't regret what he did and has his satellites to continue his work from here.
