How Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles Remaster Can Make the Biggest Buzz

A point that is of immediate concern to some fans Power battlesThe announcement was the involvement of Aspyr, the studio behind it Battlefront: Classic Collectionopening fiasco. However, Aspyr does not only have experience with others Star Wars ports, but saw some redemption later in the year with a solid remaster Bounty Hunter. Moreover, there is no indication of this Battles for Jedi Power it will have online functionality so it's unlikely to go awry. On the other hand, while much has been promised, there is still more for fans to keep their fingers crossed for with this remake.

The 13 new characters in Jedi Power Battles should bring something new to the table

13 new characters were announced Battles for Jedi Power' remaster, plus the news that the original's secret characters will be available from the start. According to the PlayStation Blog, 'Rifle Droid, Staff Tusken Raider, Ishi Tib and Weequay' will be available to unlock for now. It's likely that the only new characters will be those already available as assets in the original, which the above describes, but that still leaves a lot of possibilities. Jawas, Gungan Warriors, and/or Droidekas are all solid candidates for this role – although if Aspyr decides to create entirely new assets, another Episode I Jedi (like Yaddle or Yarael Poof) would be a fun choice.

The remastered Jedi power battles should take cues from the Dreamcast

According to the PlayStation Blog, Aspyr's improvements to Battles for Jedi Power will be “based on the post-PlayStation extended release”. This means that Aspyr will be using the bones of the port found on the beloved Sega Dreamcast, which many fans consider to be a better version. While it's nice to see some of the PlayStation UI retained, fans should count on Aspyr to take more from the Dreamcast than the PS1, which was significantly hotter.

In addition, Aspyr must focus on optimization – which is a problem for the modern Star Wars games. Battlefront: Classic Collection it had an incredibly bloated file size, and even the more well-received remasters had massively inflated file contents. So far, Aspyr has promised “smoother jumps, better balance, and new main menu art,” but what that will look like remains to be seen. Given this game's reputation for chatter, a thorough cleaning is certainly in order.

More facilitation features to handle high difficulty

Battles for Jedi Power is notoriously difficult, and that's by no means a bad thing. However, it's become pretty standard for remasters of retro-heavy games to include facilitation options. Since Aspyr already has a finished game to work with, the studio could consider going all out with the difficulty options, allowing players to modify the AI, damage levels, and stage the RNG as they wish. Additionally, Aspyr could provide these options with ceilings above the standard game, allowing those looking for a challenge to dial things up to comical levels.
