While PlayStation Plus has had some impressive months over the years, it's hard to argue against the idea that it's been kind of all over the place lately. Both January and February 2026 PS Plus Essential missed the mark for many players. Either the genres they focused on were too narrowly defined, like jet-centric Ace Combat 7 and family friendly Epic Mickey: Rebrushedor games have been critically reviewed, such as a boxing title Unexceptionable. This rocky start to the year only becomes frustrating for Essential subscribers when coupled with the consistently underwhelming PS Plus Premium, making for a rough era for the service overall, where Extra is regularly left as PS Plus's salvation.
While PS Plus has struggled to keep its entry level attractive of late, and PS Plus Premium additions have been few and far between for more than six months now, Extra has been regularly winning over its subscribers with top-notch additions each month. Even if the other two tiers slip, PS Plus Extra is there to catch them when they fall, with at least two high-profile games dropping on Extra every month. These additions come alongside a number of independent producers, ensuring that those who regularly seek out deep cuts have a chance to uncover potential gems. As always, PlayStation Plus Extra looks set to ship with its February 2026 lineup, but there comes a point where one has to wonder when the other tiers will finally take some weight off its shoulders.
PS Plus Extra costs $15 per month and $135 per year. In comparison, Essential costs $10 per month and $80 per year, while PS Plus Premium's price tag is $18 per month and $160 per year.

The headliner for PlayStation Plus Extra this month is apparently Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 2and it cannot be understated how significant this increase is. Not only is it a stellar game that takes full advantage of PS5 technology and offers a captivating web swing, two unique heroes with different abilities and a beautiful version of New York City, but with this addition Marvel's Spider-Man the series is playable via PS Plus Extra. Superhero lovers can brace themselves Marvel's Wolverine by playing all the other Marvel games from Insomniac, using the top side content, unlocking many wonderful suits and building the biggest combos they can. Getting a GOTY nomination and a major exclusive that's only a few years old is a huge win for PS Plus Extra and further confirms Extra as consistently great value for money.

For Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Neva and Unlimited Solar Crown test drive they will also come to Extra in February. The former is a beautiful puzzle platformer from the developers of Equally Beautiful Grisweaves an emotional story about a woman and her wolf as they navigate a dying world. With an 87 on Metacritic (just three points below Marvel's Spider-Man 2's 90), PS Plus Extra subscribers will get two famous stories to play in February. As regards Unlimited Solar Crown test driveit trades critical acclaim for online gameplay and a breathtaking open world in which players can race. It won't be for everyone due to its lengthy progression and relatively lackluster vehicle lineup, but despite mixed reviews, its focus on multiplayer should provide some variety alongside these two single-player heavyweights.
Adding to that sense of variety are the remaining PS Plus Extra games for February 2026, which span a range of genres. Traction Tales of Monster Hunters and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin put a cute spin on Capcom's creature-filled series, Season: A Letter to the Future tells an atmospheric story, Outside is all about cooking and Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition is a third-person adventure game with fun mage combat. If that wasn't enough, there's that too Rugby 25 for sports lovers, so everyone has something to look forward to this month. And while all of these newly announced PS Plus titles should keep gamers busy, the one-two punch of an expensive blockbuster Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and charming, story-driven adventures Neva are a combination of the noble reputation of Extra.
While it's great that PS Plus Extra is set to deliver another stellar line-up of games to its subscribers that flipped for the service in February, it's frustrating that they have to play hero to begin with. Premium subscribers are constantly scratching their heads wondering why they're getting so little despite paying the most, especially when there are still so many popular PlayStation games that deserve a place in the Classics catalog (Wall-E is the only game to be added to the Classics catalog in February, and feels like an odd choice). Then there are the Essential users who not only haven't had a really exciting month for a while, but are also waiting to be dropped when it comes to PS Plus, which will end the PS4 add-on. While PS Plus Extra is undeniably good, it's about time the other tiers stopped capitalizing on its success and became equally attractive options.
